Makes me hate the Mets even move. Scranton needs to find a new home for the 2012 season and the Mets blocked a move to Newark because of their territorial rights in northern NJ. This just annoys the hell out of me. This would not effect their team at all. It would have been great for the city and set the stage for a permenant move for a Yankees or another team's affiliate. I know that a lot of you board members would go to Newark, as would I. Hopefully something changes and they allow them to come.

Honestly, it's not all that crazy or ridiculous. Plus, if I were the Newark Bears, I'd be extremely against this as well.

They should make a bid for the Rockland Boulders stadium, because that team has some serious issues. I doubt they stick around and then that brand new ballpark will be used by noone (other than local colleges).

The Bears are a joke no one wants to watch an independent league. They draw less than 500 people a night, it's pitiful.

To clarify, the Scranton Yankees aren't permanently moving anywhere.
They need a home for the 2012 season as PNC Field is undergoing renovations.

Maybe because Neward is a piece of ******* and will always be a piece of *******. I would never put a team there.

To call independent ball a joke shows your ignorance. It is pro baseball and up until the other year, they were a part of the Atlantic League. The Atlantic League is good baseball, but just many older players looking to get signed to affiliated ball again.

This boils down to a territory issue and it makes complete sense. I'm not quite sure how old you are, but if you own a business that relies on customer bases from specific areas, you don't want more competition. Some entities even own rights to specific territories, which gives them the right to block competition.

And no, before you try to say it....this is not the same as a monopoly.

I personally would have liked to see SWB play in yankee Stadium but I read an article on milb.com that says that is unlikely to happen.

Maybe it's time to come to a PCL ballpark for a season since SWB can't find a home for 2012 back east. It also makes me wonder what the heck is going on with their field that takes so long to renovate - Tacoma's ballpark had a $30m renovation done in just one offseason!

When I was at the park I think that I heard they were doing $40m in renovations.

Looks like they are getting rid of the upper deck, adding a concourse around the entire stadium, and adding seats in the outfield.

+1. I know a bunch of kids who play in that league and it is good baseball. A lot of the guys are also players who werent a good fit in their orginazation or kids who for whatever reason did not get time to develop. Especially if they were signed later on in the draft.
