What a beautiful day in the NYC area (at least the afternoon) so why not hit up a card show??

Ok, got there around 1 pm and the place was packed! Lots of people, lots of cards, lots of everything! Rather than do those boring paragraph reviews I usually do, let's do some bullet points:

Pros:
* Lots of new collectors. I spoke to a few that "just got in" or "____ brought them back into the hobby". It's pretty cool to see newbies in the hobby. It can only help no doubt. Also, a few new dealer-faces I've never seen before! Better than seeing the same old boring people behind the tables!

* I always enjoy seeing kids at shows (they are the future of the hobby) and I totally enjoyed seeing 10 year olds hitting up vintage tables to get vintage pieces of Berra, Jackson, whoever they wanted! No pokemon for these kids! :) LOTS of kids with $$$ to spend!

* LOTS of bargain bins! I love it! I'm not cheap but enjoy spending as little as possible AND getting value out of it. I don't mind paying top dollar for a card I really want, but if I can get a card cheaper just by standing there and breaking my back looking through 1000ct lots of autos at $2-$3 each, I don't mind!

* NO SMELLY PEOPLE!!!!!!!!!!!!! :o :D

Cons:
* Too many dealers not willing to negotiate. Ok, I don't like when people low-ball me here or on ebay. So, I don't low ball dealers. If a card is marked as $100 and he has 2, I would offer $90 each for 2. Not unreasonable. But, no "sorry, I'm not budging on football cards"...um, ok. You have the right to set your price. But whatever...

* Only one pure box dealer! Seymour must be in heaven because no one else was out there with the size of his inventory! So, he had no problems marking up his prices!

* The "kid" in front of the BGS booth. He's at every show but has the most unorganized table I've ever seen in history! I'm sure he has some nice stuff but no one can see it because all his cards are mixed by sport, auto, 1/1 whatever in 1000ct boxes. Just an unorganized MESS!

Ok, here are my RCR subs! I LOVE RCR's! :)

Good stuff. Was crazy how much money some kids had. Shrewd negotiating skills as well! Hate seeing dealers play tough with the kids but seemed like most could handle themselves.

Any bargains?

I may head back tomorrow, debating on it...

There is no way that second Alex Morgan should get a 10 on the auto... Grading is becoming more and more of a joke by the day.

Thanks guys! The bargain bins were plentyful!

As for the bargain bin pickups:
11 Jed Bradley Sterling Auto RC (yeah, I know he sucks) for $2 each (9 were gem or better!) :)
5 Taylor Guerreri Sterling Auto RC for $2 each (his sterling cards are really tough...maybe 2 or 3 gems!)
9 Taylor Jungmann Sterling Auto RC for $2 each (lots of gems here!)
5 Aaron Hicks Sterling Auto RC for $2 each (3 or 4 were gem)
1 Travis Harrison Sterling Ref Auto RC for $2 (gem other than the auto which goes off the sticker).
1 Gary Brown Sterling Auto for $5 (gem condition)
1 Javier Baez Valiant Auto RC for $5 (gem condition)

I think pretty much all the bargain bins are picked through by now. Good luck though! :)

A "9" auto grade is for autos that are streaking, fading, has smudges, runs off the card or sticker. None of those factors are present here. The fact that the grader had a chance to see BOTH Morgan's and still gave it a 10 is good backup to my point above.

I was under the impression based on reading their grading standards that gaps in the signature are also considered a flaw. I see two flaws in that signature. One in the first name and one in the last name, not trying to be a downer... Just expressing my opinion... Sorry if it came off that way.

Enjoy!

You are correct they just missed it. Sometimes they miss small things with autos.
