Masahiro Tanaka - S - Player

According to Sponichi in Japan, the Rakuten Golden Eagles have decided to post pitcher Masahiro Tanaka.

Given the nature of this saga and its constant conflicting reports, this news item must be taken with a grain of salt. But it will bring about excitement across the Major League Baseball landscape nonetheless. Tanaka, 25, went 24-0 with a 1.27 ERA and 183/32 K/BB ratio in 212 innings this past summer in Nippon Professional Baseball and can probably command a contract worth more than $100 million state-side. To negotiate with him, big league teams will have to put up a $20 million posting fee.

Bruce Levine of ESPNChicago.com expects the Cubs to be "all in" on Masahiro Tanaka.

A report from Sponichi in Japan has stated that the Rakuten Golden Eagles have decided to post Tanaka, and Levine hears that the Cubbies will be one of his main suitors. The Yankees are also expected to spend big for Tanaka, and Levine says the Angels and Diamondbacks will go after him, too. Tanaka could get a $100 million contract, and that's not including the $20 million posting fee.

And now there's rumors coming out that he won't be posted. WTF is wrong with the Golden Eagles management.

From the thread on BO:
"According to Sports Jiji in Japan, the Rakuten Golden Eagles will not let Masahiro Tanaka go to the major leagues."

"However, MLB's Chris Cotillo is now hearing reports that he will NOT be posted! Arrggh...make up your damn minds already.

It looks like he will be posted. This back and forth is worse than those athletes that retire and then come back and then retire and then come back (Brett Favre cough cough)

Isn't this the last opportunity to post under the old MLB/NPB posting rules before new ones kick in or have the new ones already taken effect?

If this is the last opportunity, I say he should be posted so more posting money can be realized by the NPB team.

Already taken effect. Thats why its only a 20 million posting fee.
