his was posted over at that other place, anyone seen any others of theses?
Anyone know what the card below is, what version? It's a Gold Embossed Die-Cut, not a Refractor. I can't find much online about it, and only a few other examples of similar cards (but from the 1997 Finest football set, not baseball). Is it potentially some kind of "promo" card?

The THEORY (posed by several ppl with exposure to things like this over the years) when I grabbed the clemens pictured a couple years ago was that it was some sort of trial scrap from the card maker/printer, like to test the dies for shape, stamps for effectiveness before use, etc. The clemens cut is the same as a football cut in 97 finest. Not a baseball used shape.

The seller started by shooting for the moon (couple grand lol) like itcwas some amazing rare card, I bought well under 100 cuz it was different after it sat for a long time and nobody found it super valuable.

The whole theory could be wrong. But since card companies and past business leaders and managers evaporate like phantasms and never engage in publicizing anything or helping answer questions about where stuff came from and nobody seems to be able to identify former workers for transparency in the hobby (aside from Mike Cramer who is awesome in his fothcomingness), we ll just have to speculate.

If someone stole the dies from whatever firm had them, I guess they could make them forever and keep leaking them out whenever.

My two cents......

Also, thats the same seller from my Clemens. Likely he is either making them himself from the old, dies or bought a lot from the person who took them/bought them from a closeout/liquidarion of the printing firm maybe?
