It seems like the best match up in baseball right now and with only a 2 1/2 game lead on the Braves, the Phillies should be pretty nervous especially because of the flaming hot streak the braves are on. With one game left in the series and until the all-star break, it could mean the difference between winning and losing then NL east for the two teams. Tell me what you think about the match up and predictions in a reply. looking forward to seeing what you think. GO BRAVES!!!!

End of the season comes and phillies take the division easily by 3+ game lead. Jurgens will come back down to earth, Howard will heat up and so will offense. To think phillies have no offense right now yet best team in MLB, it will be scary once they get out of teaM slump.

What makes you think the braves offense is in top form? We are in a similar boat as the phillies.

Phillies offense hot>braves offense no matter what. With the pitching braves would have to rock our pitchers every time, not that easy to do. We can put Worley out there and win

The Braves offense has been terrible. Chipper has played with a torn meniscus, Prado is still out, and Uggla has been terrible all year until the past week or so. Medlin and Moylan should be back in August or September to help in the bullpen. And the Braves are only 2.5 games out of 1st place and that's only because they have the best pitching staff in baseball keeping them in it while the offense tries to come around. Once everyone is back, watch out.

I watched the game today, Braves are for real. Their starting rotation and their pen can keep their team in any
game. Reminds me a lot of the Phillies, who have been for the most part cold on the offensive side of the ball.
At one point the announcer said Ryan Howard was the only power hitter left on the team.

I don't see either the Phils or the Braves fading any, it will be a race to the end.

I think Kevin hit the nail on the head. The whole season, match ups between the Phils and Braves have been marginally close...1 or 2 run victories on both sides of the scorecard. What you're saying is a bunch of homer gibberish.

People have different opinions if we all had the same opinion there would be no discussion. You can quote me but phillies will win the division by 3+ games

I think the Phils will take the division by 5+ games.

Both of their offenses can improve. But I think the Braves' pitching has been playing a little over-their-head and the Phils' pitching has been about where they should be, and that's with Oswalt either out or struggling...

It should come down to the wire.

Braves are only going to get better in the next few years with Jurrjens, Hanson, Beachy or Minor (one will be traded) and the farm studs (Teheran, Vizcaino, Delgado) and what should be the sickest bullpen in baseball for a while.

McCann is the best catcher in baseball. Freeman is only going to get better.

This is a great series and both teams seem to have the same issues - injuries. light hitting at times. Both have solid pitching and are probably 1,2 in the entire MLB. However, this is only the All Star Break and lots of things can / will happen between now and September.
I think it should be a fun race to the end, but the Braves are not going to keep up this pace - look for the 2 series in September to separate the 2 teams and may the best team win!!

The sad thing is the race for the East probably won't really matter that much since one team will be the wild card. Or maybe it isn't sad if one is a fan of the wild card which I am not. This could have been one of those epic pennant races (i.e. between 2 excellent teams, not two struggling to stay over .500) that have been rendered obsolete by the current playoff structure.

yeah i agree, but as a braves fan it will benefit us. what's ridiculous though is the likelihood of playoffs expanding. that i cannot fathom.
