After receiving a whopping 21 Pirate returns this week, I've now had over 150 successes sending to current and former Pirates through the mail. There are still about 30-40 ex-Pirates that are good signers, which should keep me busy for a while.

I figured this was as good a time as any to show off a portion of my collection. A big thank you to birdsfan85for sending me some vintage cards a few weeks ago, which have since been mailed out and signed, pops for inspiring me to expand my TTM collection to include vintage cards, and a huge thank you to Danny for introducing me to TTM and helping me along the way over the past 5 years or so, and numerous others who have helped me out at one point or another here on on the BMB.

*for players that I have multiples of, I only included one scan in hopes of making this thread load a little faster. It also looks like I'm missing a few scans.

I feel like I just watched the History Channel as they did a report on the Pirates. Great cards! Best of luck on the others.

That's a great idea and a great collection. I may have to start sending out some of my random Pirates!

Thanks for sharing,

Mike

I've been waiting to see if Friend will be signing at Piratefest this winter. I'd prefer to finish it in person, but if not, it'll be going in the mail soon.

WOW!! What a great collection! I was amused/excited/surprised to see how many we have in common. I've got some catching up to do. I'd say I'll race you to 200, but you've got too big of a jump on me. Congratulations on a great set of Pirates autographs.

Now tell me, how did you get Mazeroski?

Re: 150th Pirate TTM Success (lots of scans)

Thanks! I have to in part thank you, since seeing your vintage returns motivated me to expand my collection to include signed vintage.

I'm starting to think it might be a while until I hit 200, unless I begin sending out to some of the minor leaguers this spring. There are still about 20-30 reliable signers that I don't have/haven't received back, but after that I expect to hit a wall.

As for Maz, I live about 5 miles from him, so I suspect he opened the letter due to the proximity of the return address. He was actually one of the first returns I had when I started doing TTM's in 2004. If I recall correctly, Danny helped me out with the address on the old BMB. It's fun to see how far my collection has come in the past 4+ years.

I may send to Maz again in the near future to see if he will still sign. If I can get 2 cards signed, I'd be more than happy to send you one.

I'll just add new arrivals in this thread from time to time, rather than creating new threads. Here are the new arrivals from the past month or so.

Thanks Dave. This project has really taken on a life of its own. Originally I just wanted something to keep me busy as I hit a wall with the Wilson collection. However, it's really become an interesting challenge to track down and mail out as many players as I can find that have cards in a Pirates uni. There were quite a few guys like Shawon Dunston, Restovich, and Stynes that only have one or two cards as a Pirate, while other guys like Ben Grieve and Pat Rapp that have Pirate cards, but never appeared in the majors with the team.

Wow! That's a pretty amazing collection. I've been working on building a new website (similar to nimster's) that will have my entire Pirates collection, since my current one just showcases my player and auto collections. I haven't counted everything up yet, but I'd guess my total of unique Pirate cards would be somewhere around 6,000-7,000 or so...that's completely a guess though. Once you get things sorted, if you would be interested in moving some of your doubles, let me know and maybe we could work something out.
