As many of you know, the old rule of thumb when it came to prospecting was to stay away from pitchers; they are generally extremely risky and do not yield large profits like position players do. As prospecting has evolved from the release of 2004 BCDP, players such as Philip Hughes and Joba Chamberlain have dominated the market, along with other pitchers. I figured I would ask this question to see where you guys stand, should be interesting.

P.S.- As you can see by my signature, I dont necessarily subscribe to the original way of thinking

Your sig is pretty man. That would stink if they got hurt lol. I always tend to stick to hitters just in case lol. Like I will pick up pitcher autos if they are cheap. Like I got a Bumgarner Sterling for 10 and now it is 40.

Actually, the guy on the far right will likely be out for the entire 2009 season, but oh well, I think hes worth the risk at the price I paid.

I also used to do only hitters. I still prefer hitters. I generally don't like to hold pitchers or catchers long, but short term they're usually fine. I think hitters are better, if for no other reason than the general feeling about pitchers being risky is still prevalent.

Ah, Fautino had a nice year last year lol. Wasn't he an 17 game winner in the SAL with Kannapolis? It is worth holding onto for sure.

For sure. FDLS has a huge ceiling, whether as a starter (which I am hoping he continues to be) or as a reliever (due to injury concerns). I listed one of the other golds I had and was shocked to see it sell for the paltry sum of $54 or so (to FCBs very own Casey; shrewd buy man!). I might pick up a few more things, but probably not over $100 worth.

I usually balance them out. I have alot of money into Main, Brandon Hamilton, Josh Vitters, lars Anderson, etc.

I usually flip pitching prospects sooner, as they are easier to move after a few great starts.

I feel more comfortable holding onto hitters for the long haul.

Pitchers can get you a fast flip and pretty big one (All it takes is one big start or call up). MLB Hitters are safer but need more patience. I guess they balance out.

That;s my short .02 cents

Pretty much the same thought.

Almost exclusively pitchers for me by virtue of the cheaper buy-in price. The only time I usually get into top hitting prospects is post-hype after a dissapointing stretch or a down season.

It depends who the pitcher is. If he is for a low market team then they are worth it. Once you start getting into the Joba's, and Price's of the world, forget it...to risky.
