My question is about the 2001 Pujols Topps Chrome card. Since google is my friend ( )I ran across this excellent blog by a FCB member Jay-Bee
http://bdj610bbcblog.blogspot.com/2009/ ... ll-be.html

From what I understand the 01 Topps Chrome is #596 and has "Late Addition" printed under the Topps chrome logo. This is from the Topps Chrome set.

The other 01 Topps Chrome is #'d T247 and looks like this. It is from the 01 Topps traded set which included two chrome cards per pack.

I was out of the hobby in 01' and would just like to make sure that I have this straight. I guess my real question is, does the "Late Addition" or the Traded card hold a premium over the other? I checked completed auctions and I really can't tell. Does one get more hobby love than the other?

Thanks in advance,
Brandon

The late edition really isn't a chrome card. It was a foil card, so Chrome fans might like the traded version more. I wouldn't have a preference for either. Both are great cards of a great player.

Rob,
Thank you and thanked, I knew that there had to be a difference! I wonder which product was released first, the Topps chrome or Traded? Not that anyone actually goes by that anymore.

Ahhh...now that I am looking at it, it does kinda look more foil than chrome. I feel so "foil-ish" now. :?   I'll be here all week. Come back on Thursday for a free cover charge and 2 drink minimum!

Thanks for all the info guys

Back in 2001, topps had Ichiro in its Topps set, but there was a contractual issue and they had to REMOVE him from their 2001 topps CHROME release, luckily topps had a great replacement for him in Albert Pujols who was NOT in 2001 topps base set. Thus the 'late addition' Pujols foil card.

It was foil rather than chrome in that they didn't have time to give him the full chrome treatment.

Then in the Traded set, they did the 'missing' ichiro CHrome card, and the 'missing' Pujols base topps card, and of course did another TRUELY chrome Pujols card for good measure.

I and many others never liked the late addition pujols because it looks crappay.

Hope this helps. I still have the sell sheet for this product somewhere. I'll have to find it.

Ok but is there a 3rd version then? released in like 2006 or something?

Interesting, I just saw this one, which says 06' in the title but 01' in the description. :?:

and then of course this one with a totally different pic:

That was a "Rookie of the Week" promo card released by Topps in either 05 or 06. It's basically worthless ($1 at most). For the 2001 Chrome and 2001 Chrome Traded, there is no premium for either base card. For the Retrofractors, there is a 1.5-2x premium.
