In an effort to replace Topps going forward, im looking for a nice clean looking base set to put together the rookie cards. Value is not important, eye appeal is.

That being said, the 2009/10 topps rookie card effort is weak and generic looking.

so i was looking at Panini's rcs, since they are the only ones able to make NBA rookie cards.

my question is, is this the norm for them to put two rc's in their base set? one in Pro uni, and one in
college uni?

can anyone recommend another base set of theirs that i might like?
please keep in mind that this will be an ongoing annual thing.

Thanks,
Eric

You're probably sick of hearing from me

Sadly it looks like you're options are pretty limited.....as I'm pretty sure you're looking for a base set including rookies that does not include auto's. Off the top of my head I was thinking almost all the releases had auto'd rc's.....I just double-checked my Beckett and it pretty much confirmed that.

The only true base sets I saw including rookie base cards look to be - Panini (base brand), Prestige and Studio.

And the college jsy thing is not the norm....I would have sworn it was simply a variant, but it looks like for whatever reason they inserted those into the Prestige base set.

The college/pro isn't the norm. Here are the two Roddy's:

They did do pro/warm up in this set:

There are non auto versions of those 4 cards. Also, pretty sure there are non autos of these sets:

That's good to know.
I just didn't want to seem like I thought I was some sort of basketball authority. I just know this isn't the most active part of the boards.

The Prestige set does include a handful of SP'd RC's though....so not sure how you feel about that.
Though it doesn't look like the B-Ball ones are very expensive to pick up.
Prestige does have a pretty good track record in football though - it's been around a while, and because of the SP's it is usually a set quite a few people collect.

I could have missed something when I was going through the Beckett - it's a bit of the shame if it is only those 3, since stuff like the new Crown Royale or even Classics and Elite have nice looking base sets....but they all have the auto'd base RC's.

I think other than Crown Royale (which has RC auto's as part of the base set) this years best looking base set was Studio.
