That's too bad so close to induction. At least he knew he got in to the HOF, although it should have come years sooner.

Knew he was battling Parkinsons, but a bit of a shock still. You are never ready for this kind of news. Always really liked Parker growing up. Glad he got the call to the Hall before he died.

I've been a Dave Parker fan since I was a kid. He was my guy. I still have an ever-growing collection of his cards. Great guy, big personality, and he had the balls to stand up for what he thought was right. Maybe he made some mistakes here and there, but he was his own man. And one hell of a baseball player. I wish I could have met him in person.

Even though he didn't live to see his induction, I'm really happy that he knew he'd been elected before he died.

RIP Dave.

Despite his illness, the news of his death caught me off guard when I heard about it during the Royals/Dodgers game yesterday. During my childhood, it was a joy to follow his stats and career in the box scores and see how his game and influence helped the Pirates, Reds, and A's become better teams. He will be very much missed.

This attached photo is from the Roberto Clemente Museum: "This one is a trio of talent. Willie Stargell, Dave Parker and Roberto Clemente pose in the midday sun at Bradenton, 1972."

I knew Parker was a big dude, but he and Stargell together make Clemente look like a tiny human. Cool pic.
