I think that is great. For whatever his reason was that he was willing to do it, he was out meeting fans and signing autographs until the very end.

On the corny side, I saw someone on facebook comment that someone out there got Pete's last autograph. Duh! Someone always gets every single deceased players last fan granted autograph. That is just a given that someone will end up with it, so there is nothing special about that, at least in my opinion, but we as a hobby do seen to love to collect firsts and lasts. Maybe some folks would have a level of morbid appeal for owning the very last signature from a dead celebrity, so to each their own.
