Set builder question, which one set to build 1996-2010? Topps? UD? Fleer?

I enjoy digging through boxes and building team sets at shows, my Yankee pickups have slowed. Now, I am looking to build team sets of the Knicks and working on a checklist. Need input on which sets to include...

Prior to 1990 is easy. From 1990-1995, I've included all of them since I was a huge basketball collector then.

However, from 1996 to 2010 there were multiple companies issuing base sets. I haven't kept up with basketball cards much during that time to know which one is considered primary. Whether I should build Topps, UD, Fleer, etc. Is Topps still considered the definitive set like in Baseball?

How the Panini Update sets are regarded? Some years there are update sets with no primary Panini set? Are they part of the base set or is it a whole another issue?

From 2011 onwards, I went with NBA Hoops, it was an easy choice.

Here is my breakdown...

1948 Bowman
1957 Topps
1961 Fleer
1969-1982 Topps
1983-1986 Star
1986-1989 Fleer
1989-1995 All
1996-2009 ??? (which one - Topps, UD, Ultra, or Fleer???)
2010 ??? I don't see a regular Panini set, unless Donruss is considered their base one?
2011-onward Panini Hoops
