That deal was a joke from the get-go. Cubs just expect things to be handed to them at this point.

As much as I wanted Peavy, passing on the trade was in my opinion the right thing to do. It would have been nice to get rid of Marquis, but Derosa is important to the team. Come playoff time the Cubs can have a 3 man rotation so Zambrano, Dempster, Harden, and Lilly if needed will be good enough for the playoffs. Yes Peavy would have made the rotation dominant, but we have enough starting pitching. Now the Cubs have the money to get the left handed bat they need so that come playoff they will not choke.

They're obviously very high on Vitters, as he would have had to be the centerpiece in any trade.

I agree with you here. In the playoffs this year, it wasn't pitching that we needed. It was bats. Even though we have plenty of those, they were all dead.

 Cubs making the playoffs again

I think Peavy would have a been a good asset to the Cubs rotation, and I think the Cubs are missing out by letting this deal go. I could be wrong, but this is my opinion on the subject.

I agree... Zambrano would have had a MONSTER year with Peavy in front of/behind him in the rotation.

Damn. What a disappointment. The Cubs really would have been unstoppable with Peavy IMO. Why keep a prospect that may or may not develop into a great player when you can have a Cy Young Caliber pitcher in his prime? Just doesn't make sense to me.

"The Cubs on Thursday acquired right-handed pitcher David Patton from the Cincinnati Reds for a cash consideration. Earlier in the day, Patton was selected by Cincinnati in the Major League phase (first round, eighth overall) of the 2008 Rule 5 Draft from the Colorado Rockies Triple-A Colorado Springs roster."

Well, I guess he is a "good" second choice!! :D

Pitching is not what we need to take us to the next level. It is the fact that our star players crapped down thier leg when it was crunch time. On that note, they are now rumored to be after The Big Mullet, I mean Unit.
