I have always been fascinated with oddball issues and this issue never got the respect it deserves. Much like the 2 decade earlier multi-sport Sportscaster card issue, this was a through the mail subscription series as well. Like Sportscasters, it seems it didn't last much past a few years before production ceased. With both issues, a size factor probably lead to their early demise, as collectors just don't seem to embrace much of anything outside of the standard 25" x 3.5" card dimension.

I wrote a blog entry about this issue several years ago and just recently dug out my duplicates, which prompted me to buy several more binders full. I have just finished going through the new pick-ups, adding any new variations and upgrading a few that were worn or damaged. I have a renewed interest in these, but it seems information is not out there and getting new ones is difficult unless I buy in bulk and take a chance that there will be a few I need. There are plenty for sale, in single and binder format. They are typically not very expensive either, probably again due to the size. It often costs more than it's worth to buy singles and bulk binder lots though.
As these don't get much press, there may be a few collections hidden out there, unknown to anyone but the owner, but I am going to go out on a limb and say I may have the most comprehensive collection of these out there. Yet, I still have numerous gaps in my checklists. I would love to find a complete checklist and perhaps even a few collectors out there who share the same passion for this odd issue so we can compare notes and maybe even trade.
I just wanted to get this back out to refresh people's minds to this issue and to point out to advanced collectors that there may be a gold mine of new variations for you to chase if your player is in the set and you have none or only one version.
