NO ITS NOT ME........but "needs Chapman's" on blowout is (I think he is or was a member here)

Here is his case

As many of you know, I've been requesting a replacement for my Bryce Harper 2012 Bowman Chrome Orange auto I pulled back in November. This was part of a much larger replacement request, in which I was beaten down to accept junk Tier One and Topps chasing history autos for all of my James Paxton bowman chrome autos.

Well after seven months of a lot of back and forth between Topps and myself, I was informed today that Topps would not be offering me any cards as a replacement, and my only option would be a case of 2013 Bowman Draft Jumbo. From day one, I had the stance that I would not accept product as a replacement ... I redeemed a card and a card I shall receive (or two cards even if need be). Topps however says they don't own any valuable replacements, so I suggested cash. I was rebuffed.

So today, after learning I would either have to accept a case of Draft, or wait for Harper to sign (if he does not, I will be sent the case of Draft anyway), I filed a complaint with the BBB, a complaint with the NY Attorney Generals office, and opened up a claim in the state of NY for the amount of $1,030 (Harper + filing fee).

In 72 hours, I will receive my court date, and case number and in 72 hours, I will post a press-release officially announcing the case.

Good for you! If this happens more and more, maybe Topps will start to get the hint and start to feel the bad press in their bottom line.

P.S. How the hell can they not get Harper to sign those cards. You KNOW he will be signing more Topps cards, but why not those.

You can do a press release for free quite easily. You don't need to be what you consider a legitimate source.

Sure, you can sure, you can do lots of things. That does not mean it does not look a bit funny to me when a regular guy posts a "press release" Hell at the HEIGHT of FCB I wouldn't have worded any communication like that.

I'm guessing the chrome cards he didn't sign are supposed to be on-card.

I'm also guessing that he signed a contract for a certain amount of autographs he has to sign within a certain period.

Topps, knowing they can use his sticker autos for as long as they have them, used up their amount by having him sign sheets upon sheets of stickers for future product.

I would highly doubt to say that Chapmans is just a "regular guy" in terms of topps and baseball card products. He is a heavy heavy investor in Topps products and seeing someone finally do this is relieving for the hobby.

So it's simply bad business and lack of ethics on Topps' part. They knew they needed these to be signed and should have allotted them to be signed instead of simply saying "Screw it, F our customers who pay our bills and salaries."

F Topps.

Pretty much.

I mean, i'm sure they figured at some point they would get done, and a good part of redemptions from them do actually get done.

But it takes for-f*cking-ever and all the customer is left with until it is done is a partial guarantee.

A case of Jumbo for a Harper Orange Refractor auto is nowhere near equal and Topps giving him an ultimatum is bullXXXX. I'm glad he is actually doing something instead of just taking to message boards and XXXXXing about it.

I wasn't taking a position on if it was silly or not. Just it's easy to do.

I read that thread last night. Very interesting arguments in both directions. Tough battle IMO but it's a start. How about pay the athlete after they return signed cards or stickers? Probably not the first to come up with this idea.

he is going to small claims court which means nothing at all to you or the card collecting world. Say he does win, he will get the 1,000 he wants, and nothing comes of it. Its not like it would open the flood gates to lawsuits after setting a precedent, it wont. Its small claims which really means nothing.

BTW ignore the fact topps offered him a case worth 1,000 and he is making a scene over nothing trying to rally the troops for HIS cause. He was offered a fair deal and just wants to make a stink. I must say he is quite the drama queen.

Wouldn't he have to remain silent about the outcome if they reach a settlement in most cases? We may never know the outcome anyway.
