I just got an email from Tom Haudricourt, the Brewer's beat writer. He confirmed that, b/c CC is THE top ranked free agent, the Brewers will get the Yankees' 1st round pick.

That means that the Jays will only get a sandwich and the Yank's 2nd Round pick. The Jays don't get the comp pick the Yanks get for Gerrit Cole not signing because it's protected for some crappy reason.

Now, if the Yanks still try to sign Sheets (which looks unlikely) i don't know how that screws with the Brewers; but for now, I'm happy.

Here's the link to his blog, answering the question I asked.

Cool, I was wondering about that. As for Sheets, I kind of hope that, if/when he does go, he goes to the Astros for some reason.

Sweet, I was right earlier, although I didn't know it had anything to do with the ranking of the free agents, makes sense though. Unfortunate for the Jays. I would assume if the Yanks signed Sheets, then the Brewers would get another supp. 1st and the Yanks 3rd rounder. EDIT - I'm not sure if Sheets or Burnett is ranked higher, so who knows? Well somebody does.

Now if someone could tell me how the order of the sandwich picks get decided, so I could have a better idea of where the M's will be picking. Can't wait for Zduriencik to have all these high picks.

Burnett is ranked higher than Sheets. I saw it in the linked article. Thing is, and i don't know how serious they would ever be; but if the Yanks go after Tex, the Jays>Burrnett and Brewers>Sheets picks tumble a round or pick or whatever.

IMO, MLB's sytem here is broke and they to fix it. Otherwise teams like the Yanks, Sox, Cubs or Mets can steamroll the smaller teams each year.
