The Players Association turning down MLB's request for third party mediation isn't good. Hopefully this gets fixed fast because I'm already going through baseball withdrawal.

And did you mean the elephant in the room in your title? I never heard the phrase the monkey in the room.

I've heard of an elephant and gorilla in the room. But never a monkey. The lockout will turn fans and collectors just off like it did after the 1994 lockout. I don't have any sympathy for the players or owners especially. They're a bunch of millionaires and billionaires anyway.

It really isn't. When MLB brought a mediator in back in 1994 it went spectacularly horribly.

MLB is dragging their feet on everything at this point trying to reach an impasse so they can enact the same "emergency" powers they enacted in 2020 to force a deal down the PA's throats.

Each year they say on the news there will be a federal government shutdown and it never happens because the budget/bill always goes through. I think they will work it out.

But.....if there is a lock out, I hope it hurts card prices like it did in 1994 and I can pick up a few things for cheaper. 😈

As a dozen+ year federal employee I can tell you government shutdowns absolutely do happen. There was a two-week one about ten years back, and a few years ago there was a shutdown that lasted over a month. Usually they are threatened and averted at the last minute, or they end up lasting like a day, but it happens once in a while.

North Jersey Media Group | Pete Caldera: Owners are once again attempting to hijack the narrative of the lockout by asking for a federal mediator, insinuating that it’s the players who are holding up proceedings. This comes after a 43-day delay between instituting the lockout and the first bargaining session, and only four negotiations between MLB and MLBPA, culminating in MLB’s refusal to tender a counteroffer to the union on Thursday. The players called the owners’ bluff, rejecting the request for a mediator and pointing out the reality that the MLBPA has always been willing to sit down at the table.

Only MLB would be dumb enough to have a lockout when ratings, the hobby and revenue are all way up.

I forget who said it, I think Buck O'Neill, but they said (summary) "It's a testament to baseball's strength that it survives so many internal attempts to kill it"...

steriods will help you grow more muscle cells and further blow up these muscle cells through increased cell volumization, but when you stop taking steriods, the cell volumization will recede and the muscles well eventually deflate to normal size. Even so based on new findings its clear new muscle cells hang around.

That's how the benefits of doing a cycle will give someone a long-term advantage over someone who's lifetime drug-free.
a good example of that, Nelson Cruz
