Sources which had the Yankees signing CC Sabbathia, also now report they will sign Derrick Lowe, and are attempting to sign Manny Ramirez as well. Apparently they have also offered Ben Sheets 2 years/$30 million. Is it plausible that the payrole of the Yankees could reach 1 billion dollars?

Again, these big deals are not so big. consider the few big contracts they dropped this year and all the young guys they now have mixed int here and the payroll is not any bigger than last year. Sure, they will most likely have a billion dollar pay roll in 25-30 years, but c'mon, give it a rest already.

No....it isn't plausible. The Yankees payroll is 600-700 million dollars away from that and ticket prices would jump to 100.00 per bleacher seat if that happened.

There is an equilibrium point, we just haven't see the Yankees' yet.

The eight of you who said yes to this pole were likely under 18 years of age and have no idea what there payroll is now.

Actually yes and I am aware of their current payroll as of now but I do think eventually with the climbing prices and the climbing contracts...we will see it.I mean...20 years ago who the hell would have ever imagined the contracts of today. But then again going to the ball park 20 years ago was a lot cheaper too.

I think if the yankees keep on their current agenda which is the train of thought that money can buy a world series championship every year...we will continue to see payroll creep up.Besides...if and when the economy rebounds...the sky is them limit for them as long as people are willing to pay to see the games. And buy the jersey's and other things. As long as they make enough money to do so then they would be able to pay the players more.

And I am 25 by the way.

I should have made it clear I didnt mean 1 Billion dollars for 1 season, I meant 1 billion tied up in contracts over the life of those contracts. Looks like they have spent about a quarter of a billion between CC Fattassia and Burnett, 1 Sheets contract added up with the rest of the team should clear $1 Billion, I believe.

yo MallcopKJ - you said you were in the movie with kevin james. I saw the commerical for it tonight. Wasn't it filmed in a mall in your town?

Hey man. Whatd you think? I thought it was pretty funyn although the "G" rating makes me think they toned down some of the scenes I saw. He was hysterical off camera but I guess they wanted to make it more of a family friendly movie in the end. Anyways, it was actually filmed about 30 minutes away from me. Its not the mall I normally go to but I have been there a few times. Iv been trying to get into acting for a about a year now and was supposed to be in the new TNT series "Bunker Hill" with Donnie Wahlberg and Bridgette Moynahan (sp?) and play an irish street gang member but we had a family emergency a few days ago and I unfortunately hurt my back working so it didnt happen.

It won't be long before the Yankees payroll reaches $1 billion even for just one season. Ever since free agency started, salaries have skyrocketed. Every 15 years or so, the salary of the highest paid player goes up 3-4X. It's not inconceivable that the Yankees payroll will reach $1 billion dollars in 10 years.

I definately agree with you. Especially after you look into CC's contract. After 3 years he can opt out which, in my mind, means hes going to pull an A-Rod. Say he wins 2 Cy Youngs and gets 50-55 wins in the next 3 years. He can opt out and probably have the Yankees bump his contract up to $30 Million/season right? I mean everytime a guy accomplishes some new, outlandish feat he sets a cash record and its happenning more and more especially in pitching. 1st you look at Kevin Brown who I believe got the biggest contract ever for a pitcher at that time. Then there was Mike Hampton who I believe topped him. Next Barry Zito topped his deal as the highest pitcher ever and went from #1 pitcher in baseball to a guy who looks lost out there at times now. Really, once you reach the top, where else can you go but down? These contracts are going to have to top out somewhere right? I think teams are making huge mistakes right now in their decision to sign these guys, and teams are trying to step up and just flat out refuse to pay these guys but because of the 4 major spending teams (Yankees, Red Sox, Mets, Angels) its not working. All this and I am a Red Sox fan, who definately wants the Red Sox to go after Mark Teixeira right? I guess I am being a hypocrit to some extent, but it just blows my mind that every year someone sets a record for the highest contract at their respective position, while I cant afford to go to games because of it. Its funny to see that in AJ Burnetts ENTIRE career hes had 2 injury free seasons and both were contract years. Hmm.. thats worth $80 Million+. I love baseball and want to watch a good team on the field but the line should be drawn somewhere. Otherwise, why play the game? Just play a whole season of all-star games and have a good time, thats what these teams are turning into anyways.

The MLB will step in before they even get close to that and I think a Salary Cap will be put on very soon.
