ESPN -- All-Star shortstop Troy Tulowitzki will have surgery on his left hip Friday in Vail, Colorado, and miss the rest of the season, the Colorado Rockies said Wednesday.

Tulowitzk has a torn labrum in his hip, the team said after a 5-3 loss to the San Diego Padres.

He was placed on the 15-day disabled list on July 22, three days after he was hurt running out a grounder at Pittsburgh.

In addition to the hip injury, he had taken days off to rest his chronically tight legs. The leg issues date to 2008 when he tore the left quadriceps tendon.

Tulowitzki leads the NL with a .340 average, but he will not have enough at-bats to qualify for the batting title.

Seems like he can never stay healthy for a full season. It's a shame...

I don't think he ever will be fully healthy.
He still has to take off games for chronically tight legs from a 2008 quad tendon injury. And now he tears his hip labrum running out a ground ball?
He must have genetically weak tendons if his muscles and body can't support them.

weak tendons can come from steroid use too...

That aside, was really hoping he'd have stayed healthy this year to see what kind of numbers he could put up for a season.

Thankfully the Rockies didn't miss out on all that insurance money by trading him for prospects before the deadline though. Yankees and other potential trade teams dodged a bullet there...

Glad the Mets didn't make a trade for him like they were talking about

Glad I sold my Tulowitzki cards during his hot streak.
