whats the deal with basketball finest rc's

i thought baseball was the only sport with dumb rc ideas

but for the top draft picks AT THE TIME like paul morrison etc they have a finest rc for the year they were drafted and the year before, whats with this, whats the true rc? neither are signed most of the times unlike baseball

They are XRCs that were inserted in the previous year set before they are drafted. Lebron James has a 2002/03 Finest XRC that was redemption card. There was a redemption card for each 1st round draft pick, including parallels, for the following years draft. You wouldn't know who was on the card until after the draft. This was done for several years including Pauls.
