Does anyone here invest in current veterans or 2nd/3rd/4th yr guys?

For the first time last off season, I pretty much threw myself into the above (while still buying true prospects) with some nice results.

1. Scherzer: only went for 2008 SPX
2. Brandon Morrow: didnt pick up anything grand but still waiting for him
3. Thole: The combo of cheap prices/few autos rcs/mets/job is his...had me convinced. Oh well.
4. Jordan Zimmermann: Nicepitching results but waiting on a rise in values
5. A Gon: BEFORE he signed with the sox, nice pay day
6. Gaby Sanchez: hot start turned into nice season.....yet no love at any time.
7. F Garcia/ Colon/R Soriano: made the money but its regional because Im in Yankee country.
Theres probably a few others, dont remember.

Not sure if this counts but I just bought a lot of six Domonic Brown Sterling autos for a little over $50.

Don't see how i could lose much on the lot, I could definitely see his prices rising during S.T. or if they recall him before the deadline and he plays well in the playoffs.

constantly.

The best time to do it is while everyone else is chasing the release of Bowman Draft.

I have put some money into Jason Heyward and Clayton Kershaw lately. I guess they're my new PC guys so i don't know if I look at them as an investment, but the potential for the cards to go up in value is one reason I chose to collect them. I think Heyward will be a very good player and Kershaw, still only 23 years old, has a chance to be an all-time great

Im still picking up Jordan Zimmermann in hopes that either:
1- The Nats get a team that can score runs for him
2- They trade him to to a team that scores runs regularly

Harper and Rendon aren't far away so hold on a little longer. No way they trade him

Harper isnt hitting AA pitching very well, I hate to see how he fares with AAA let along the Majors.

Don't be on the overreact bandwagon! Even elite players have a period where they struggle in the minors, some of them have entire bad seasons. He'll be fine and will be a really good player. He isn't even 20 yet....... **CORRECTION- He doesn't even turn 19 for another month**

I think once Strasburg returns all eyes will be on Washington. Zimmermann will be in the conversation. Unfortunately Chromes seem to have dried up on Ebay. I would pay $7 DLVD for them all day long.

I have no intention to move my Zimmermanns and have continued to pick them up.
One way or another, he will do well in years to come.

Dont be on the under reaction bandwagon. You said Harper(and Rendon) "aren't far away", no? Well it's true he is not hitting well in AA (as was pointed out). So what exactly makes you think he will turn this around instantly, move to AAA and do well enough to be promoted to the big league and produce well enough there to support the team in the context of "aren't far away"? I hate to burst your buble, but at the current level of play Harper is producing at the plate, or lack there of, he is more likely to be 'far away' than not.

Unless you know something the rest of the sport viewing world does not(aside from wishful thinking and speculation)? THe issue is not his age, or slumps, or whatever, the issue is you thinking he is 'not far away' which is fruitless. Unless you think 2 years or so before an impactful presence is 'not far away'...

"Not far away" is a relative term, and my definition apparently differs quite a bit from yours, rendering your pointless and blabbering argument completely irrelevent. I dont own a single Bryce Harper card and I am not a Nats fan so I have no reason for "wishful thinking". I consider "not far away" for a prospect to be inside 2 years, not next week. I referred to Rendon as also being "not far away", and since he hasn't even been assigned to a squad yet you could have deduced that my definition of "not far away" doesn't mean within the next month or so. But good job coming off as a jerk

Same. It's a lot of fun, and a little more logical than guys in the Minors.

Been selling off some Verlander stuff for nice profits recently. Also may be approaching time to sell off some Kershaw as he's jumped a nice amount, but he's just so good I keep thinking the potential there is ridiculous.

Still buying Lester when prices are recessed. Picked up my 5th blue ref. recently. He's bounced back a bit over the last week or so price-wise though.

Picked up some Bruce and Cutch when they were cheap this year. Both have been up and down as far as prices.

Cano is a guy whose price swings offer opportunity.

I think that Miggy Cabrera has gotten completely overlooked this season and prices are pretty low.
