Why do some sellers only offer BIN for items under $50?

I have done it in the past, than I started looking at the numbers and how eBay works.

It is cheaper to list an item in auction format with a BIN for the same amount as the starting bid than it is to list it Buy It Now only.

I thought it was interesting. I know it isn't a lot, but if someone does a decent amount of BIN listings each month, it could start adding up. The numbers will change when it is put into higher dollar amounts, but I normally don't list anything larger than $50, so I didn't feel like doing the math.

I assume some people prefer to use the Buy It Now option so they can list items at less than desirable auction style times.

For example, if you list auction style, I would say the most desirable end times are evenings when people are home from work (Not everyone uses a snipe program). Buy It Now auctions can be listed at any time with equal results, assuming the BIN price is one that someone will pay.

I work nights and sometimes list cards while I am work. I don't want my auctions ending at 3am EST, so I use the BIN option.
