Why does Ebay limit you to just 1,3,5,7 and 10 day auctions?

What's the point?
Why can't I list something for 2 days, 4 days or 6 days?
Just curious as to the thought process behind this.
It seems like it would be pretty easy to allow auctions to last to what ever length a person chose and would increase the amount of listings.
Thus increasing sales/profit.

I have absolutely no clue but it does make me feel better knowing that I'm not the only one who has thought of this seemingly inane subject.
