It's a sad day for me... Omar's final game.

Tonight's Toronto/Minnesota game is likely the last that Omar Vizquel will play. Fittingly they have him starting at shortstop and the word is that he intends to retire after the game. I guess I knew the day would come, but I'm still in shock. Even worse that I couldn't make the trip to see it. Feels pretty lousy that I'll never again get to see him play. Ugh.

2,876 hits. It's a shame he wasn't given a bigger opportunity to get 3,000 hits. So close.

Start saving up for his Hall of Fame ceremony in 5 to 10 years.

I, too, love Omar. The only cloud on the 2010 Giants WS for me was that Omar wasn't on the team. I still miss him.

I'll be able to watch it, as they are playing the Twins (home market team). I still need to get you out a package from when I saw him play last year at Target Field w/the Sox.

It will be a very odd feeling to watch the 2013 season and know he won't be playing. I had just turned 3 years old when he made his debut in 1989. I can honestly say that I have no memory of a baseball season of which he wasn't a part. Feels weird to see him go.

If anyone happens to grab their local newspaper tomorrow from around the country, I'd love to get the sports page with the box score. Or if your paper happens to have even a tiny blurb about him retiring, it's something I'd love to have. PM me and I'll work it out with you...

So will that leave Thome as the last Cleveland Indians from the "magical 90s" still playing ball?

Omar was truly a master at his craft... I hope he gets into the Hall of Fame... very few players can match his defense.

Very nice gestures that Farrell started him at SS and Brett Lawrie swapped jersey numbers with him. I wonder where those jerseys will end up?

To the OP, I'll definitely send you whatever is in the Toronto Star tomorrow. PM me your address.
