If your scoring and my scoring are correct, you actually beat me by half a point.
not sure what I was looking at. Coulda swore I looked at my score and I saw -.5

Just to make sure I rechecked my ABC numbers against the schedule and then rechecked the game results. My score of .5 is correct. Sorry for the confusion.

Not at all. Thanks for letting me know about my mistake. You better not beat me by half a point in the playoffs.

Glad you enjoyed the game. You only have to win one of your 4 unscored games to qualify for the Beat the Commissioner consolation draw.

Also, don't forget the Hit & Run Mayhem season long contest that starts March 1.

Thanks again.

well , i've been scoring all my opponent's games all season and it's definitely cost me a playoff spot...i know i posted quite a few losses of mine in which my opponet never posted anything .....i fully agree that those who don't actively participate should not get wins when their opponents score the game , but i also don't think a losing team should automatically get a win because of their opponent's inactivity .....(disclaimer - i am not whining and asking for something to be done to change things this season , but perhaps to look for a slightly better alternative in the future if this contest returns - which i would like to see) ....

that said , since i need at least 3 wins to tie the host and qualify for the drawing (and my 2-4 mark for the week is highlighted by losing my only home game of the week , dropping another game -5 to -6 despite my opponent losing by 9 runs that day , and picking up another loss because i was the road team in a 3-3 tie , i am going to post only my results and pray someone else fails to do so , allowing me sneak imnto the drawing....

I do appreciate your feedback, and will consider a different approach if/when this game is rolled out again in the future.

However, I still think the best solution would be for everyone to only look after their own team. Throughout the game, a number of other active participants also scored their entire matchups. I am sure that a few outcomes worked against them as well.

Although it was pretty clear at the onset who was participating, your willingness to score both teams for your matchups is admirable. My most enjoyable contests are those having many active participants, so again, thank you.

Unfortunately, your commitment to the game did cost you some wins. As you alluded to, it is just not realistic to go back at this point and adjust the outcomes for all games where non-participating teams got the win through other's efforts.

I mentioned a couple of times previously that there is nothing wrong with scoring just your own team to see if your opponent shows up that week. Nearly half have dropped out at one point or another, so that info can work in your favor.

Whether bonafide or by way of a DQ, a loss is a loss. The circumstances around either are moot, I'm afraid (at least in the context of the game's format).

Good luck the rest of the way!

I enjoyed the game and it's too bad so many dropped out. It didn't take that much time to score the games after I got the hang of it and those who quit screwed someone else out of a chance to play. One sure fire way to help reduce that outcome is to require a personal monetary stake in the game up front that is lost if you quit and even that isn't foolproof. Call it a security deposit to secure your spot and your seriousness to complete the game.

I was one who scored both sides of every week except for this last one and I did score both sides of the final week initially and went back and edited my scores later. I'm sure it cost me a few games as well. I'm not concerned about it though.

i'll be honest...i never looked back to see who was scoring games each week unless it was my opponent for a given match-up....heck , until i saw you mention a few posts back that therion had been gone for a good while i never even noticed and i still don't know who the other player you said dropped out is....it really doesn't take too long to do this....i set up a spreadsheet with a new page for each 5-game week and once i got the ABC numbers for each opponent , it took roughly 15 minutes to score all 5 games for both me and my opponent followed by a quick copy and paste to the weekly thread....

i do hope this game returns and despite my lousy results this year , i'd have no problem going along with the suggestion made by mr mopar about having an entry fee (perhaps any card with a minimum BV of say 8 , 10 , or 15 bucks ?) to supplement (or possibly even replace) whatever prizes you'd already plan on providing....

If there's one thing I've learned with these games over the years, the moment you introduce a pay-to-play format (Paypal, cards, whatever), the bottom falls out on participation.

Sure, there are always a few generous members who offer to contribute, but it isn't fair to them when the majority are not comfortable with it.

Therefore, I probably won't make this a requirement any time soon (especially when it leans too heavily on randomness).

Hit & Run Mayhem should be successful for all of the reasons mentioned in the main thread.
