Wait another year, and it will be all over. A year ago it was Strasburg. You can hear a pin drop in Strasburg threads now.

Prospecting is like the Cubs. There's always next year.

That's probably because he's throwing bullpen sessions and not major league innings.

Oh, no doubt. No disagreement. However, I doubt he would be out pacing Harper threads.

You're PROBABLY right, as the new, shiny thing always gets the most attention. Plus, people hate Harper much more, so an added level of interest. Of course, the way Strasburg was going, if he hadn't gone down, he'd probably be getting a TON of attention right now, because he'd likely be dominating over a full season.

Re: Bryce Harper: "I could care less what people say about me"

When failing 7 out of every 10 times at the plate Is considered being very successful, that is the kind of mind frame he MUST have. I hope the only thing he is thinking about when he his on the field is performing to the best of his ability. It will make the experience watching him all the better.

He knows what awaits him in the Show

It's just Bryce being Bryce. There's no question about it, he is one of the hottest players to come around in a long time. He's an explosive player, in a league of his own, and _obviously_ the numbers he's putting up speak for themselves. All his critics have his back against the wall and he seems to be responding and overcoming this adversity. Maybe he wished he could take it back but now he just has to take it one game at a time.

Re: Bryce Harper: "I could care less what people say about me"

There are far too many people with opinions these days, I don't blame him for feeling the way he does. Harper is a paid athlete and should care about what the Washington Nationals think about him.

If the Nats feel like the're developing a superstar baseball player but can handle his general disapproval rating (think: Rodriguez and Bonds in baseball or LeBron in basketball) then let the kid say he doesn't care.

Alex Rodriguez, Barry Bonds, LeBron James, and Bryce Harper have something else in common. Huge $$$ for their teams.

What is also great: the Harper Haters who hate solely on the amount of Harper threads created.

If you were REAL baseball fans you'd be excited about a player like him. He's great for the sport.

I agree with him in that situation. You can't please everybody, so don't bother trying.

So long as he cares about his effort and the game itself, he'll do just fine. Once he gets called up and leaves his mark on the game, assuming he performs well, he will have everyone's respect, and that's better than being liked.

He seems like a pretty competitive guy, so I don't think there'll be a problem of him going all Manny Ramirez and picking dandelions in the outfield during the game. There is nothing wrong with being competitive and getting inside the opponents head with something like a blown kiss.

Every time I hear somebody mention Harper blowing the kiss, I think of Moonlight Graham winking at the pitcher.

This guy is a deusche bag. No I am not saying this because he has not signed for me numerous times, it's way he carries himself. Here on FCB there is a certain degree of animosity towards him because haters 'gone hate. People love to hate the best. But what I don't understand is why Harper thread after Harper thread a quit swearing of people on here try to justify his actions and stick up for him. Of course I feel bad for him that he is stalked by autograph hounds and put under a microscope by the media... I wouldn't want to deal with that crap. But saying shat like "I don't care what people think about me" and blowing kisses at opposing players and starting bench clearing brawls is down right un classy. If a player like Cole Leonida was doing this everyone would be ripping him apart and saying "who does this guy think he is." Just because Harper was on the cover of SI and graduated HS a year early his actions should be vindicated? If he continues going down this path he's going to have a hell of a time making friends in the big leagues. His fellow teammates don't like him and today he was booed by fans as he drove away mocking them by honking the horn in his obnoxiously big pickup truck. He then almost killed my mom driving out of the parking lot.. dumb ass. He even had employees and his daddy carry out his equipment to his truck. I hate to be the guy who wishes someone the worst with their career but that is honestly how I feel.

Sounds like Todd Marinovich with his dad and employees carrying his stuff...

Re: Bryce Harper: "I could care less what people say about me"

he also said in that article:

"I'll let the higher powers figure that one out," he said, arms folded in front of the third base dugout at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium. "We have a great organization and I'm ready to do whatever they want me to do. If I have to stay in Hagerstown, I'm going to stay in Hagerstown. If I go to Potomac, Double A, Triple A, big leagues, whatever they want me to do, I'll do."

seems solid enough. a bunch of butt hurt autograph seekers and creeps on the internet SHOULD be the last thing this guy cares about

Re: Bryce Harper: "I could care less what people say about me"

Nothing to do with auto seekers or this quote, but national opinion is quickly becoming that he's a ******.

That is not good for him or the Nationals.

You almost never hear about minor league players on Chicago sports radio, but they took the time yesterday to mention that he's acting like a d-bag.

I don't remember anyone saying that about Strasburg.

Re: Bryce Harper: "I could care less what people say about me"

Harper's had a target on his back for years.

As for the recent negativity towards him, it's expected I think, especially when something like the blown kiss, the mini brawl, etc. Couple that with being on the cover of SI at 16, he's in a completely foreign realm of press by the age of 18 than anyone in any major sport.

Strasburg didn't nearly have the early and constant hype that Harper had. Strasburg went undrafted out of high school...Harper was on the cover of SI as a high school sophomore. People rail him for the eye black he would wear, part-time teammates would rail him for being aloof and arrogant...all the while he focused on the one thing he wants to do...play baseball.

I don't understand the need to hammer him in the slightest.

Not trying to rip the guy but the fans are going to be the ones paying his Salary...

I feel this statement lacks sincerity.

Annnyway, the following statements from Harper are the much more important and telling than the headline...

"It's fun every single day and I love it," "Baseball is my life. I love the game."

Bingo-hard to see any sincerity in the OP bringing this up when he has been against Harper from day 1.

The OP is part of the cult that will stop at nothing to try and bring this kid down-and it's kind of sad to be honest. As Brett Keith mentions, there are other quotes in this article that are just as important. But, the OP has a pretty obvious agenda, and it's obviously anti-Harper.

And all of the haters on here would probably say the same thing, if they lived a week in his shoes. But, that doesn't matter-let's just tack on another 15 yards for piling on. And no, I have no interest in Harper succeeding, and own nothing of his-it'd just be nice to see some people get off his fracking back.

To the OP-so what happens when Machado says the same thing? Then what?

I'm glad i'm not the only one who chuckled when the OP said "not trying to rip the guy"

I really wish Bryce Harper would stop acting like he's still an immature teenager. I mean, doesnt money and fame instantly make you an adult?

Re: Bryce Harper: "I could care less what people say about me"

He's the great hope in professional baseball...he can get away with whatever he pleases as long as he signs enough autographs, gives enough good quotes to the media and appears on track to fulfilling his enormous potential.

I don't think Ken Griffey Jr., Chipper or A-Rod was as cocksure and brash as Harper is [or I guess is portrayed by the unscrupulous media looking to dig up dirt] but for the young pro's sake, hopefully he becomes as good as they are.

By almost all accounts, ARod was an arrogant tool growing up, Chipper was a hick and Griffey was the son of a star.

Plus, it's impossible to project how those players would have been treated in the instant media that we have today. A simple cell phone can broadcast video clips live and be played, clipped, repeated across the world instantaneously. It's just crazy, any bad moment, any snip...recorded for history and the world to see.

I'm not worried about him being cocky, or blowing kisses. That will end the day he gets the bigs. If it doesn't, they will make it end quickly by beaning him routinely. The majors will humble anyone quickly.
