The last thing I needed, but I have always liked the 1978s better than the 1977 RC Cola cans, the ones with the baseball instead of the square under their images. This set is massive though, 100 cans, compared to the 70 can set from 1977. This was a large lot that was cheap, with cheap s/h. That almost never happens, so i wernt for it. It was supposed to be 50 different, but I am sure I saw several dupes as I unpacked them. A bit bummed, but not the end of the world.

That's crazy unique. Do you display it somehow?

Highlights from my COMC shipment that arrived Christmas week:

010624-1.jpg
The most important pickups for my supercollections...Trent Dilfer 2003 Prestige National stamped 3/5 and 1997 Action Packed Extra Points 100-point card. The Extra Points cards were not something that was really on my radar but I also can't recall seeing one of these in many years so I'm glad I could find one. Also a Todd Van Poppel 2000 Fox Sports Net Cubs card - this is one that Beckett doesn't catalog so I wasn't aware of it until I started entering my collection on TCDB a year and a half ago. I know that set is tough so I grabbed one right away when I saw it pop up on COMC.

010624-2.jpg
Super sweet '90s stuff. The big ticket card of the shipment value-wise is the 1999 Topps Chrome Fortune 15 Refractor Ben Grieve 017/100. This set has become one of the "in" '90s inserts to go after in recent years so I grabbed it right away when it popped up on COMC for about $50. I already had the Eric Chavez so I am mercifully done with A's in that set. 1999 Bowman Chrome International Refractor Grieve 081/100 Gets me down to only 2 needed for that team set...a common and the Tim Hudson RC. Then we have a 1997 Pinnacle Mint Gold McGwire, 1998 Stadium Club First Day George Williams 180/200 ('90s collectors know how hard these are - only 4 left for my team set but that includes Canseco and Henderson), 1999 Stadium Club One of a Kind Matt Stairs 113/150 (2 left for that set but one is Henderson again), and lastly a 1999 Invincible Opening Day 14/69 Eric Chavez.

010624-3.jpg
Some interesting relic cards. The Sweet Threads A-Rod/Chavez/Blalock/99 finishes up all the single/double/triple/quad GU from 2004 Sweet Spot that feature an A's player. Guess I have to work on the patch variations now.

010624-4.jpg
Autos and team set completers. The Khris Davis is some kind of a short print, as this base version is much tougher to find than the 150th Anniversary parallel/150. 2008 UD Heroes Brown/149, 2001 Pacific Retail LTD/85, and 2013 Panini America's Pastime/125 are done with. Regarding America's Pastime, I'm pleased to have completed a /125 team set that has both Canseco and Rickey in it.

010624-5.jpg
Some Bowman Chrome color highlights, nothing incredible but the Chapman prospect card from his RC year is sweet. The bottom row were all high-priced prospects once upon a time that have fallen greatly. Windsor gets me one away from finishing the 2006 Gold Refractors, still missing Frank Thomas.

010624-6.jpg
Some other cool refractors. I love the look of the '88 Silver Pack Purple Refractor A's cards, it must be the purple name banner carried over from the original '88 Topps that does it. Definitely a set I'll try to finish up this year.

010624-7.jpg
Some Topps Black parallels and a 2005 Cracker Jack Mini Blue Nick Swisher 06/50.

010624-8.jpg
And finally some random stuff. 2004 Elite Extra Gold Status Huston Street RC 05/10, a couple of Moments and Milestones "1/1" cards that I pick up if I see them real cheap (that's my 6th of the 182 Zito's in the set), Topps Rookie Cupo McGwire parallel 11/99, older Topps Rookie Cup Blue parallel Claudell Washington 41/50, and slowly inching forward to completing 2003 UD 40-Man Rainbow with a Ted Lilly 33/40. Still need 10 of them!

Mariners Team B-Day card with facsimile signatures. Probably from around 88/89. I could probably do a little name cross referencing or the catch phrase "playing for keeps", but I am close enough and don't care to put in the effort at this time. Have never seen one before, but I wasn't looking specifically either.

and a couple of Archives autos, Dent and Hudson

Had a Fire start (literally and figuratively) to the new year. Neighbors place caught on fire a couple days ago. Everyone's safe and it thankfully didn't spread over but it was bad.
Joined a FB group at the end of December and on the 1st of January BOTH of these inscriptions were offered to me. They've been on my "want to grab" list for a while. Super fair, quick and great transactions. Couldn't be happier

This was cheap and not worth mentioning in the Dodger thread, since he never actually played for them (but has certified Dodger cards). Ricardo Rodriguez.

After discovering that I in fact had not completed the set, I ended up buying a full set! Seller had a higher opening bid on it with no bites. He lowered it to $500, so I figured why not. Its just under $23 per card at opening bid price. Of course, I didn't factor in shipping and taxes, which raised that per card price a little more. I added a slightly higher snipe bid, but figured if someone wanted this, i'd probably lose. Nobody else bid, so for about $25 a card, I got it.

It was a pretty hefty purchase for me, who likes to dwell in the bargain basement most of the time. Now, I am 2 short of 2 sets! Banks & Mattingly.Donruss Signature set of 22.png

Great additions, everyone. I've been terribly busy lately and haven't kept us as I usually do.

Been wanting one of these since I saw one sell for way more than I expected. Of course, its more the action **** than anything that draws me to this card. Very fitting of a 1971 design. The early Archives/Fan favorites of stars can be tough to find and spendy. Palmer is one of the (usually) cheaper HOFers. Finally was able to land one after losing out on a few.

Took 1 off my 2024 hobby goals a few days before the year started. Received today.
2007 topps chrome red refractor /99
Amazingly the lowest # parallel besides the Super. Topps was crazy odd in the late 2000's

07 topps is 1 of the best looking sets ever. Chrome improves on that, and the red white and blue refractors are icing on the cake.
