Music & sports; they've intermingled for as long as both have been around. I remember watching TWIB highlights of vintage highlights or blooper VHS' from the 80's that always intertwined music and highlights (or lowlights) from sports. NFL Films has obviously done the best, IMO, meshing highlights and instrumental music from some of the most famous & renowned composers to ever grace the earth and some great instrumentals, even for that time, when some of the music was beyond questionable:

As the dawn of music videos erupted in the early 80's and the popularity of sports throughout the nation, due to basketball constantly on t.v., football gaining more & more popularity & baseball steamrolling on, the weaving of sports & music continued on:

Yes, there aren't a ton of 'athletes' in early video's (I couldn't find a link for the Super Bowl Shuffle, either ), but, artist creativity was still being figured out, so, trying to get athletes in videos wasn't a high priority, as it was in the early 90's. One of my favorite songs & videos from the early 90's was and is M.C. Hammer's "2 Legit 2 Quit"

This video was beyond incredible, not only because of the quality of the song but the laundry list of the superstars & icons in the video: Andre Rison, Deion Sanders, Jerry Rice, Jose Canseco, Rickey Henderson, Chris Mullen, Kirby Puckett, Isaiah Thomas, Roger Clemens, Ronnie Lott, David Robinson, the Atlanta Falcons Cheerleaders and former Atlanta Falcons coach Jerry Glanville. Also, the Godfather of Soul, James Brown, plays a main part in the video (the song starts around the 8:20 mark of the video). This was the kicking down of the door to cross pollinate music videos and have musical superstars and that of the big screen showing up at the sporting events. YES, the stars of Hollywood were showing up at Lakers games since Showtime really took flight in the early 80's and Spike Lee was a fixture at Knicks games, but now everyone seemed to be showing up everywhere, especially in music videos:

There's also been a recent few, mostly with folks in rappers video's, but, the one that led me to jot down this write up is Macklemore's "Downtown". Ken Griffey Jr is in this video, a couple different times. Now, some of you collector's, not familiar with Macklemore, but with Mr. Jr., are wondering "Why the hell would Griffey be in a video for a rapper that I've never heard of before ?" Well, it's the Seattle connection. Griffey, is a former Seattle Mariner (I know, breaking news), but, Mr. Macklemore is also from Emerald City. Here is that video:

(Griffey's cameo's are at the 1:40 and 4 minute mark).
Now, question to all you FCB'ers out there: what's YOUR favorite music video with a sports star in it ?
