Also i was looking on ebay and found these (BTW i have a Chicago Cubs themed room - and they would look great displayed)

To bad i cant buy those - my mom wont get them for me :( But i would love to have themm! Feel free to get them and me pay you back after christmas!!!

I wouldn't want those balls, as there is no proof that the balls were even hit by said player...and they aren't autographed either.

Adrian Gonzalez is a great choice, also Morneau, Votto, Zimmerman, Crawford and Markakis are relatively cheap.
Matt Kemp stuff is pretty expensive actually..

the only way to have a connection and interest in your player collection long term is to choose a player that YOU like... whether that means you like how he plays the game or you've met him personally or whatever. When I chose to collect Jose it was 1987 and Oakland was the team I watched. I enjoyed watching Jose get up and swing the bat.. whether it was strikeout 3 times or homer it was always an adventure. even with all the craziness surrounding him the last 8 years or so the memories of watching him play the game still remain and thus why I still have an interest in my collection 21 years later.

I like the Michael Young suggestion.. he is cheap and a very solid player. There was a member here looking to move a small collection of patches and auto's that would make a great start to a collection. Some flashy cards for the collection will definately keep you interested in it especially if they can be had cheap.

adrian gonzales is well liked, fan favorite, his stuff is dirt cheap, and one of the best hitters in baseball. if he gets out of SD, you will do well too!

If you don't know who you want to collect, then collect nobody. Player collections are born from some form of admiration or connection with the player, not a suggestion on a message board. If you choose someone for no reason other than being cheap you'll get rid of your collection (which probably won't end up being much of a collection) quickly.

Troy Tulowitzki is a great player who si cheap and plays in a small market I think his cards have alot of potential to gain alot of steam in the next couple seasons.

Good advice. Also sometimes pulling a card of a player leads to collecting that player.

Lots of ways to collect, player collecting is just one way.
