I thought the Fleer "combo" cards with two or three Superstars pictured together, usually from the AS Game the year before, were cool. They were a small subset of the base set, usually near the end of the set.

In '92, when "Rookie Sensations" were hot I bought a Mark Wohlers for $25. That wasn't so cool...

1992 Fleer Rookie Sensations was a good one.
Any Donruss Elite from 1991-1995. These were highly elusive. I remember my dad kept buying packs of 1992 Donruss trying to pull the Ripken Auto.

I remember killing my allowance buying Score and Pinnacle jumbos in 1992, for the Impact Players and Team 2000 inserts. So much more expensive than the regular packs, but so worth it!

The 86 & 87 Fleer All Stars were the first inserts I remember seeing and being excited about, especially the latter set because of the blue and red backgrounds. I then took a break and didn't return until inserts were an expected part of the packaging and they were everywhere.

I was away from the hobby my Navy years so when I got home in '93 I was hooked trying to get a Stadium Club First Day Issue Mattingly card. I kinda wish I focused more on the '93 refractors. I still have the first Mattingly FDI I got back then.

I wasn't quite a kid anymore (sophomore in college) but the 1994 SP Holoview Red set was the coolest insert set of it's time. I finally finished my entire set a few years ago, and I've been slowly building the 1995 SP Holoviews and I'm 2 cards away from a complete 1996 SP Holoview Red set.

This...loved the 92 fleer rookie sensations inserts, I remember trading big to get my hands on a Phil Plantier. I also remember going to various supermarkets looking for Fleer Jumbo packs with my bro. I loved that Sensations set so much that I've enjoyed subsequent years; this is instantly one of my favorite cards in my PC:

I first started collecting in 1991. There were very few insert sets at the time, but the big one I remember being exciting was the Fleer Pro-Visions cards.

I wanted second everyone's vote for 1992 fleer rookie sensations, also the donruss Elites were super popular. I also remember all the Shaquille o'neal inserts being crazy such as magic all rookies, topps gold, beam team etc. The 1993 stadium club first day issue cards were cool but they were so expensive for any stars that I don't remember them being super hot. 1993 finest refractors were pretty crazy too.

My friend landed the Thomas Rookie Sensations back then.

He had a window above his door into his room which folded like this 1450994925400.jpg

It was weird but he used it like a showcase (you had to look up) and I remember that card being the centerpiece.
