I can't really figure this out. Here's some completed listings for today.

2010 USA Chrome
[ebay:2ck9la7x]120859511629[/ebay:2ck9la7x] 9.5 - 114
[ebay:2ck9la7x]330690080646[/ebay:2ck9la7x] Raw - 67

2011 Bowman Chrome Prospects
[ebay:2ck9la7x]290673522647[/ebay:2ck9la7x] 9.5 - 23.50
[ebay:2ck9la7x]180824518101[/ebay:2ck9la7x] Raw - 6.50

Now, I understand that obviously the USA Came out first. But still, it's technically considered an Insert. The 2011 is Harper's first Chrome in a Washington uniform and is technically his "True" bowman chrome rookie (even though that doesn't really mean anything anymore).

I agree that the USA chrome SHOULD be worth more than the 2011 obviously, but I really can't understand why the margin is so great. I would think based on the USA prices that the 2011's should be getting 15-20 for a raw and 60-70 for a Gem. Maybe I'm crazy, though.

Anyone else have any thoughts on this?

In 4 jumbo cases of 2010 Bowman, I averaged about 4 of each base chrome, and under 1 of each USA chrome. The USA cards are severely SP on their own, and then the presses were cranked for the upcoming releases as well (Harper Nationals)

Also, Harper has an ass hat of Auto's in 2011, so maybe people are going after those.

I personally think that when the hype is at its peak peak collectors will turn to what they can afford, and that looks like it could be these chromes.

I'd be happy unloading mine if they get into the 10,15,20 range or more. At 5-6 bucks, if he ends up producing, the cards will atleast stay at that price. Hell a few over the last few weeks hit 10 bucks per.

I'll add that I'm not into the chromes for that much, but I thought it was a safer bet then shelling out 30-40 per. Higher profit margain in large quantities possible.

Personally look no further than Heyward's debut. He had prior autos going ballistic and his base chrome was going for $20 during the frenzy. With Harper out-pricing the "ESPN crowd", I think they will buy 2011 Chromes when he blows his first kiss to Dallas Braden as he circles the bases.

That's just my opinion though.

Horrible analogy. Not many people saw Heyward breaking out that day like they expect Harper too. Also, his BC in 07 was before the autos of 08 Chrome and so the base Chromes had more room to grow.

Harper had a USA Chrome, then a shitload of Autos, then a 2011 Chrome, so those 2011 Chromes have no where near as much potential as Heyward and his 07 Chrome RCs which exploded.

USA= about 1 per expensive jumbo case and majorly condition sensitive.
Chrome= 1 every other box

I pulled a USA from my lcs counter box right when it came out in just a few packs. Then opened a jumbo case and didn't get a one, but did every other USA player.

as crazy as it sounds, i think that the 2010 Bowman w/Chrome was Short Printed (compared to other years of issue)

and im pretty sure they let the presses roll on 2011 Bowman Chrome

Harper had a USA Chrome, then a quit swearing of Autos, then a 2011 Chrome, so those 2011 Chromes have no where near as much potential as Heyward and his 07 Chrome RCs which exploded.

Of course it can't be a straight up analogy (which it wasn't meant to be). Harper has had cards out for years before (2008) his 1st Chrome (2010). Harper is a different animal that anyone we have ever seen. We've watched the kid, literally kid, grow since he was blasting BP shots at the Trop'. There are no true comparisons. Jason was all anyone on ESPN talked about for a month. He just happened to hit a HR on his first swing. If you don't think Harper Chromes will get to $20 if that happens, then I can't help you.

The old hobby rule of thumb was that 2nd year cards are worth a third of rookie card prices. Since the first year was SPd and there are so many squinkier alternatives to a plain old 2011 Bowman Chrome, 10x seems about right.

But who would want a USA card instead of in a MLB uniform?

and why not just get the 2009 UD USAs?

Seems to me like the card has great growth potential. As the build up continues, some buyers will want to get in somewhere on the Harper hype, and these are a solid easily identified brand that will be affordable. I like the potential of the 2011 Harper chromes.

This is what people shelled out the big bucks for back in 1998.

The paralels are getting good coin, its the base that are currently available very cheap

Refractors are still very low. Even 9.5 Refractors have been in the $50-$60 range with one lone outlier at $84.99 recently which hopefully is an indication that they are trending upwards. When the product came out, raw centered refractors and purple refractors were in the $60+ range, so after purchasing a raw copy, grading it, and selling it as a 9.5, you might break even right now which to me is disappointing, but oh well, what do you do.
