Just noticed -- Matt Purke is about to make his pro debut, for Hagerstown.

Nationals pitching prospect Matt Purke will make his professional debut Wednesday for Hagerstown, according to a club source.

Purke will start for the Suns, the Nationals' Single-A affiliate, as they finish up a three-game series Wednesday morning at Greensboro.

Game time 10:45 a.m. No details on if Purke is on an innings limit or pitch count for this first start.

For Purke, 2012 has been spent exclusively in extended spring training, where the left-hander has been working since April. The lefty made two appearances with the Nationals during spring training, posting a 2.70 ERA in 3 1/3 innings.

In his most recent extended spring start last Thursday, the 2011 third-round draft pick pitched six innings and reported no problems with a historically troublesome shoulder. Purke had been receiving seven days off between starts and will now have to get used to just six days.

Carlos Martinez: Cardinals promote Carlos Martinez to AA
Carlos Martinez - S - STL - May. 29 - 4:12 pm et
The Cardinals have promoted pitching prospect Carlos Martinez from High-A Palm Beach to Double-A Springfield.
Martinez is still on the minor league disabled list with shoulder tendinitis, but he was destined for the Double-A level this year anyway and the Cardinals wanted to get him a head-start on making all the necessary off-field adjustments. "This gives him a chance to get his feet wet, get acclimated to life in Southwestern Missouri," farm director John Vuch told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. "Instead of having him do those two things simultaneously, this gives us a chance to start on one." May. 29 - 4:12 pm et

Every time i see what Domingo Santana and Jon Singleton are doing, it makes me detest the pence trade even more than the first date.

Credit to JP, he called it when he predicted the PTBNL would be Santana. I thought there was no way the phillies would be stupid enough to do that with a kid who was still 18!!

TDA is certainly pushing for a promotion. I can see a few trades happening around draft time. Hechavarria could be up sooner than later...... has gold glove defense already and his bat is coming around
