[h=1]Sports Card Hot List for May 30th 2013[/h] Posted on May 31, 2013 by Corry Gross
No time for introductions, let’s get strait to this weeks sports card hot list!
Michael Wacha Chrome Autographs

Tis the season for call ups. Michael Wacha got his last night and was dazzling. He showed poise, tenacity and a level of maturity that I did not expect from someone on their major league debut. What is the formula for long term success as a MLB starting pitcher? A 96 MPH fastball with good location and a really good change up? How about a world class change up? Add in his impressive but still developing curve and you got yourself a big money starting pitcher.
The public has officially caught on and his chrome autographs are in the $45 range up from about $22.

Domonic Brown Sterling Autographs

Some organizations want to give their talent a trial by fire where they push till their guy is treading water and see if he swims. The Phillies do the opposite. They have the largest prospect kiddie pool in the majors. They will take high up side super athletic but raw baseball players and give them 5 years in the minors. Then trade them off after they fail.

Dom seemed to be the latest in this line of prospects and probably the one with the greatest expectations. This year has made people throw off the mantle of disappointment and see him as a middle of the order run producing threat. 13 long balls in this short of a season will do that to a fan base. His sterling autograph is up from $9 to $20 and will probably go higher. If you want to know more about Dom’s hot start, check out this article.

Torey Krug Rookie Cards and Autographs

Well it’s not every day that you see a hockey card at the top of the hot list, but Torey Krug deserves it. Playing for the Boston Bruins, he almost single-handedly took down the Rangers in five games to advance in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Mainly because of injuries, Krug has had his chance to shine in the Playoffs and he has become the hero of the Bruins team. Krug didn’t score any regular season goals, but he has scored 4 in the postseason.

Because of his heroics, Krug’s cards shot up in price. His 2012-13 Upper Deck Young Guns rookie cards went all the way from $2 to $20. His Certified 2012-13 autograph sold for $1 on May 12, but after his postseason performance, they’re up to $76.

2010-11 Panini National Treasures Paul George Autographs

Paul George has carried the Indiana Pacers in the NBA Playoffs and his cards have spiked as a result, especially his high-end National Treasures cards. The one pictured sold for $919 recently. Similar ones sold for a couple hundred less last month. Also, his 2011-12 Panini Classics /449 autographs are topping $55 after selling for around $30 at the beginning of the month.

2011 Bowman Chrome Stetson Allie Autographs
Before the season started, Stetson Allie was written off as a prospect because he had just made the switch of becoming a full time hitter after failing to make it as a fireballer. Now, he is batting .344 with 13 home runs early in the season and is again making a name for himself.

Before the season had started, you could have had his 2011 Bowman Chrome autograph for $2-$5, but now they have shot up to $20 a pop with his power surge.

Nick Franklin Rookie Autographs

You remember when elite autographs and other not chrome cards weren’t good investments? Oh yeah, you don’t because it’s never been true. Elites have ALWAYS been a great flip when a player spikes. Compare Nick Franklin’s elite auto to his chrome right now. The elite spiked from $3 to $20, the chrome spiked from $8 to $20. The elite is marketed as a year earlier and that might be part of the reason, but you still cannot ignore this kind of pop.

I’m actually surprised that these things did not spike higher. Two bombs in a debut normally moves the needle higher than this. It must be because it was on the west coast.

Kawahi Leonard Exquisite Autographs
Oh those plucky Spurs. I have heard them described as just flat out boring. Sure, it isn’t easy comparing to the pomp and circumstance that comes with the Miami Heat. They bust out the best player in the game in Lebron James followed by another mega star in Dewayne Wade and oh yeah Chris Bosh. They look unbeatable. By contrast the Spurs are a no flash team that just flat out gets it done. They might have an incredible task as it looks like they will face the heat in the NBA finals. If I were them I would be pulling for the pacers and fellow hot lister Paul George.
Kawahi has picked up his game to new heights in the playoffs and his cards have certainly gone up. His exquisite went from $75 to $90 bucks and if his stellar play continues it could keep up the steady climb with a possible spike.
