Former Major Leaguer Scott Spiezio Is In Trouble With The Law Again

"Scott Spiezio's big-league career ended in a downward spiral of substance abuse problems and scrapes with the law. Since being released from the Braves' minor-league system in April 2008, the former infielder who won World Series rings with the Angels and Cardinals appears to have kept his name out of the police blotter. He even resurfaced with a couple of independent league teams in '09 and '10 before calling it quits for good.

But now comes a report that Spiezio's been charged with domestic battery and vandalism stemming from an alleged fight last month with a woman who told police she's his ex-girlfriend.

The 31-year-old woman told cops she had visited Spiezio at his home near Morris, Ill., on Aug. 17, and that the two got into an argument that escalated into Spiezio allegedly grabbing her by the hair, slapping her, and punching out one of the windows of her car. Spiezio, 40, left his house that night and could not be located by police, but three days later a warrant was issued for his arrest. He turned himself in on Aug. 24."

He played (might still be playing) in a slow pitch softball league with a few of my coworkers, and I've heard stories as recent as a month ago about Spezio just looking like that stereotypical weird, spaced out druggie guy you see walking around town. Hopefully he can find some peace and get his life back on track.
