A.J. Burnett Signs a One Year Deal With the Phillies

Jim Salisbury of CSNPhilly.com reports that the Phillies have agreed to a one-year deal with A.J. Burnett.

This confirms a report from Hayden Balgavy of KTHV in Little Rock, Arkansas. No word yet on the exact terms involved. Assuming Cole Hamels is healthy, the addition of Burnett gives the Phillies a very potent trio at the top of their rotation. The 37-year-old posted a 3.30 ERA and 209/67 K/BB ratio in 191 innings last season with the Pirates and ultimately elected to remain in the National League. Feb 12 - 11:52 AM

Anybody who wants Burnett can have him!

Hamels is experiencing arm soreness and could miss first month of the season. That said:

Signing AJB after his stating "not sure" about pitching anymore. ::facepalm::

Paying him $16 MILLION for one year. :benson:

Another bizarre, desperate move in an awful Off-season for RA2...

I'm not sure what all that nonsense was about regarding Burnett retiring. Who didn't think when they heard that he was contemplating retirement that he was too young to do so?
