Can someone drum up my post where I said he's the best hitter ever, and took a bunch of flack for it last season? BTW, I love flack.

He's certainly on his way there at light speed, but I wouldn't use that word - yet.

Im not sure to the answer of your post but all I know is that he fixed that bum elbow that was bothering him for years and I fully expected him to come out strong this year as this is the first time in a while he has been close to 100%. Pujols is the man

Best hitter ever? If you are going by HR before the All Star break, I would still give that to Griffey (if you are going clean) or McGwire (if you don't mind a little enhancement).

Ted Williams is the best hitter ever period, end of discussion. Until Albert flirts with 400 you can't even compare them. If Williams never served his country he would be the home rin king. Albert is the best hitter today but FAR FROM the best ever.

He hit 30+ homers 7 times.
And 20+ homers 8 times.

Ruth only had 600 more at bats than Williams, but had almost 200 more homers.

I don't think many fans realize what a great pure hitter Ruth was. He hit .393 one year!
Add in Ruth's pitching dominance, and Ruth is clearly the best player of all time.
I do think Pujols is the best hitter since Musial and WIlliams' era.

My top 6 is:

1. Babe Ruth
2. Ted Williams
3. Ty Cobb
4. Stan Musial
5. Lou Gehrig
6. Albert Pujols (if he keeps it up for 5+ more years)

Here are projected stats if Williams never missed 5 seasons. The lowest Hr total is 697. Better average, more RBI's, hits, and walks than Ruth. They both were great but Albert doesn't belong in that list yet.

It's pointless to argue "what if?" stats.
Ruth pitched his first 5 years in the Majors.
So "what if" Ruth hit full time instead of pitching?
He'd have more than 800 homers.
Besides, those projections in the link you give of Williams each show him with more than 10,000 at bats, or 2,000 more than Ruth.
So "what if" Ruth and Williams had the same number of at bats?
Ruth would blow Williams out of the water.

But ruth did it in the dead ball era. Williams played in a much more homer friendly park and didn't have to face the likes of a spitball. Either way williams was a great hitter but in the era of todays specialist (Pitchers) Williams wouldn't hit .400 and i don't think anyone else could either.

Cobb was the Best he could hit for average or he could hit for power if needed. If you have to talk about great hitters though how could we leave out the likes of Hornsby who hit over .400 three times!

Hornsby is defintely one of the most underrated hitters of all time.
He averaged .402 over a 5-year stretch and hit .358 lifetime, second to Ty Cobb.
And he won two Triple Crowns.
The main knock against him is he had an amazing ten years of dominance, then injuries and other problems riddled him for many years.
Shoeless Joe Jackson may be another top 10 hitter of all time.

Like who? Not for sure but which team in the Central is in first? 41 wins, only LA and BOS have more wins, no team in the NL East has 40 wins.
