a 2008 Playoff Contenders auto of Gordon Beckham graded a bs 9.5 witha 10 auto sold for 149.95 on ebay

500-700 base autos contenders versus 900-1200 chrome base autos.

It's not always about quantity. Contenders is the new kid on the block when it comes to baseball. Chrome has the established reputation behind it, along with an on-card auto.

I could understand that sale if it was shortprinted, but it isn't. This was likely just a fluke.

I think too the surface on the contenders is much tougher to grade.....so essentially you have 1/2 the print run and then a tough grade. I just submitted a dozen contenders that I looked at countless times and only 3 made the cut (Halman, Peguero, Parra). Think of how many BGS 10s of 2008 chrome we have seen on this board alone, tons.

Realistically it should sell for $75-85, I agree it was a fluke.

Chrome will always be king.

Maybe this particular auction has to due with sheer population. Only 10 Contenders AU have popped as BGS 9.5, while, 128 have popped have 9.5 from the Chrome.

Yep, Beckham is hot right now, and he will continue to be a stud. Not sure what evidence there is to say he sucks, considering he's been solid and professional at every level :lol:
