The Blue Jays and first-round pick Chad Jenkins have agreed to terms on a $1.359 million bonus. Jenkins becomes the 14th of the 32 first-rounders to sign, and just the third to exceed MLB’s recommended bonus for his slot.
Jenkins’ bonus is $9,000 more than MLB’s guideline for the No. 20 pick, and $1,000 more than what Jiovanni Mier signed for with the Astros at No. 21. Mike Minor (No. 7, Braves) is the only other first-rounder so far to sign for more than slot.
A righthander from Kennesaw State, Jenkins combines a tremendous feel for pitching with quality stuff. He has a 90-93 mph sinker, can touch 96 mph with a four-seam fastball and also has a plus slider and average changeup.
