Zebulon, NC --- The Cincinnati Reds have made a series of player moves impacting their Double-A affiliate Carolina Mudcats ahead of tomorrow night's homestand opener against the Mobile BayBears.
C Devin Mesoraco has been promoted to Triple-A Louisville, with C Chris Denove returning to the Mudcats from the Bats. Additionally, RHP Jerry Gil has been promoted to Triple-A with no other corresponding player move announced as of Tuesday afternoon.
Mesoraco leads the Reds organization with 23 homers and went 4-4 in his final game with the Mudcats on Saturday night, falling a home run short of the cycle. Mesoraco blasted a pitch in his final at-bat against the left field wall on the fly for a single, narrowly missing the home run he needed to become the first Mudcat to hit for the cycle in eight seasons.
Denove, who has spent two separate stints with Louisville this season, returns to the Mudcats.
Gil, who reached the major leagues as an outfielder and infielder, reaches Triple-A for the first time since he made the decision to be converted to a pitcher in 2007. Gil was 3-6 with seven saves for the Mudcats in 2010 with 46 strikeouts in 56 innings pitched, tempered by 53 walks.
The Mudcats' roster is at 23 players, one shy of the Southern League limit.
