what brands are best for football

sorry to sound so ignorant, but I've been out of collecting for a while and I knew and know that bowman chrome has been the best in baseball and the refractors and autos are still king, but what about football...it seems that there are so many cards, what is the best RC to have or the most popular RC auto or RC game-used, etc

I'd like to buy a few good cards of some young guys I think could breakout this year, but I have no idea what to shoot for

Sage base cards are HOT.

Seriously, Elite holds value well, Topps Chrome w/ BC inserts this year, Contenders, SPA, Exquisite and National Treasures. The latter four are probably the most popular.

Edit: Ultimate is always one of my favorites.

For a cheaper end set I think Topps is rather nice this year.

Topps Chrome is always a good value holder.

SP Authentic is awesome but with UD losing it's NFL license who knows?

Contenders is usually good.
