Much has been said and written about Aroldis Chapman and his fastball, including "Strasburgian" predictions, but a blurb in today's paper caught my attention. It quotes Matt Bynum, a researcher for the Louisville Slugger company:
"Chapman's 104 mph fastball takes only 0.39 seconds to reach the plate. Factoring a stride of about five feet, that time is reduced to 0.36 seconds. The average human eye blinks at a speed of three-tenths to four-tenths of a second. So if you are the batter and you blink at the point of Chapman's release, the ball will pass you before you open your eyes again."
Amazing!
The article also mentions that Chapman has a Lamborghini with plates that say, "105 MPH".
Arrogant!
