Hindsight is 20/20 but I doubt the 2010 class comes even close to the 1984 crop of rookies.

Clemens
Gooden
Puckett
Hershiser
Darling
Langston
Gubicza
Pendleton
Samuel
and I'm sure I'm missing others who didn't figure in the ROY voting.

I think it'll eventually go down as one of the best ever, but right now it's way too early to tell. At this point, every single one of these guys could turn out to be a bust.

+1
You figure that at least one of them will turn out to be great, but we can't tell that right now.

Wasn't the average something like only 10% actually turn out decent and the rest are average?

I ran a similar post touting 2006 as the best (at least since 2000):

I think you are right. Here is the breakdown of rookie hitters who had an OPS of .750 or higher and rookie pitchers with a WHIP of 1.35 or better (first # is hitters). 2006 blows all the other years out of the water.

2006 - 29 + 32 = 61
2009 - 15 + 32 = 47
2007 - 21 + 22 = 43
2010 - 21 + 19 = 40
2003 - 18 + 19 = 37
2008 - 18 + 15 = 33
2005 - 18 + 14 = 32
2004 - 17 + 15 = 32
2002 - 12 + 15 = 27
2001 - 8 + 15 = 23
2000 - 9 + 9 = 18

I think Elite players should be a big factor in this too though..not just simple quantity of players who meet certain OPS and WHIP qualifications. For example, 2001 did not have a large number of guys meet the OPS/WHIP, but IMO it would be one of the better years of the decade simply because of the two first ballot HOFers in that class (Pujols and Ichiro).

I think 2010 has 5 or 10 guys who have a chance to be Elite players like that.

I just put it out there. 2006 seems to have the largest percentage of "quality rookie seasons" within the last 11 years. I do agree with you on 2010. Many great players who will only get better.

Yeah I'm not arguing with you, it's pretty interesting to see how each class stacks up against the others and this is definitely a good way to look at it. I wonder how many of the 2010 guys will be able to continue their success into 2011. Let's chat in 20 years or so and decide once and for all which class was best

The Giants WS trophy says that even if Posey is a below average player for the rest of his career he'll never be considered a bust in this town.

You be the judge. Once you get past Ichiro, Pujols, Sabathia, and Oswalt, I don't see how it's even close. 2006 is much deeper at this point in time, IMO.

You must have a very strange sense of humor if you find yes or no questions laughable. :?
