Assuming both are the same price, which has more room to grow -- a black auto refractor /25 or the printing plate auto 1/1?

It probably depends a bit on the card but I'm going to say 9/10 times the 1/25 auto card is going to be more valuable than the 1/1 auto plate. I dig the printing plates and keep all of mine because I think they are cool and down the road they will become more popular and more valuable but as of today 1/25 auto probably is going to get twice the plate.
