He wasn't what his max was, but it's hard to call someone who won a World Series, an All Star Game MVP a complete bust.

How about a " flash in the pan " then.
He was a lot more than a flash in a pan. He averaged 3.4 WAR a season which includes season of 8.9, 5.6, 4.0, 4.9, 4.4 and so on.

Guys that hit 1 HR can be an all star game MVP.
Guys that dont play can win a Ring.
Drew pretty much seems like a bust.

I forgot Corey Patterson and Tyler Greene were even still on the Cardinals until I seen the post game celebration when they won the World Series.

lol no.

LOL, yes. Guys that hit a HR in an ASG were voted MVP. Thats a fact.
LOL, yes. Guys that are on the roster that dont play or rarely play get a ring. Thats a fact too.
If your only argument for a guy having his number retired is his WAR, that proves he doesnt deserve it.

Wow, that went right over your head. First, the number retirement is a joke, read the article. People saying he is a bust or a flash in the pan are wrong.

You don't like WAR. OK how about a career.873 OPS, .384 OBP, .377 wOBA, 126 wRC+. Not to mention a plus defender in the outfield. The only thing against him is his injuries, but players can't control injuries. They can control production and Drew has been a very productive OF for the past 10 years.

He was as unclutch of a player as I ever saw and he seemed hurt an awful lot in playoff races when the team would have needed him. I agree that he was a plus outfielder.

There have been over 17,500 Major League Baseball players in history.

JD Drew is 111th all time in OPS
JD Drew is 143rd all time in OBP
JD Drew is 209th all time in career WAR
JD Drew is 214th all time in HR
JD Drew is 93rd all time in defensive WAR

I do not like JD Drew, never have. I have no idea why I'm defending him. He was overhyped as a prospect - but he's not a bust.

Its fair to say he didn't come close to living up to his initial (lofty) expectations/hype in the sport... or especially in the hobby LOL.

For better or worse, he was about as good as Ray Lankford, or maybe Raul Mondesi, were.

Not to mention that the guy himself added to the expectations by not signing with the first team who drafted him because he wanted more money.

He is a good player, maybe not a bust but certainly a disappointment. I like the Lankford comparison.

The Red Sox do not beat the Indians without Drew in 2007. That grand slam was as clutch as it gets.
