Last week at the show in the ATL, a customer came by and told me he pulled a Homser Red Refractor Auto /5 from a box and asked what they go for. I asked to see it, but he didn't have it with him. I told him that was a HUGE pull and it would probably go for $3-$4K easy. He said "really"? Anyways, fast forward to day and the same customer came up to me and told me he had sold the card for "5". I said $5,000, and he said no, $500. I almost threw up in my mouth. I said, I told you it was at least a $3K card, and he said, where on eBay? I told him he really lost out. He said oh well and walked off. I was walking around and one of the dealers there asked if I wanted to see something awesome he just bought...and he whips out the Homser red. I told him so you were the one who ***** that guy. He told me, "they don't book and probably won't go for over $1K". Right.....this is a guy who overcharges for any single and looks every card up before quoting me a price. I told the dealer I had talked with that guy last weekend about that card and what it was worth. The dealer said "don't make him feel bad....he's new to the hobby and don't want to discourage him". Can't believe he took advantage of that guy.....but on the other hand, the guy could have just as easily looked online for himself.

I've been sick all day.

And don't feel bad for the idiot that sold it for $500, you gave him fair warning. I guess you could be mad that he didn't sell to you instead

ANOTHER thing...... are you certain it was the Bowman Chrome and not the Topps Chrome? They look similar and have the same pic of Hosmer, the TC is #/25 though and you did mention it was /5, but I was unsure if he told you that (you said you didnt see the card) or if you assumed

The seller was given an estimate of the card's value and sold it anyway for a fraction of value. So, I really don't feel bad for the seller. Stupid is as stupid does.

the guy who sold it is an idiot...it appears he was told that the card is worth 3 - 4 K and he instead sold it for $500...he obviosely doesn't like money and he wasn't taken advantage of, just given less of what he doesn't like!

I held it in my hand and I know the difference between a Topps chrome /25 and a bowman chrome /5

Edit - nevermind. The OP definitely knows the difference between TC /25 & BC /5.

Well, if the buying dealer was told by the seller that "some other person told me $4-5k", and the buyer said "that guy never knows what he is talking about" and proceeds to mislead the seller about either the value of the card, or draw comparisons with other cards closer to the $500 range, then it would be an issue.

I will say, I have often (and still sometimes do) sell cards for much less than I know they are worth simply because I am in the mood to move them, and (for whatever reason) I never quite know how to handle deciding to sell/keep cards I pull. So maybe the seller legit didn't care, but I can envision multiple situations wherein the buyer discredited your initial appraisal with an eye toward misleading the seller. I have seen buyers say things like "well of course so-and-so will tell you it is worth so much...he ain't offering to buy it, is he?" and so on.

He took the $500 that was offered to him. If he wanted more he could've asked. Sucks for him.
