Yogis overrated historically Bench clearly and Josh gibson for some ***** league flavor

Yogi is underrated historically. Yogi's colorful character persona overshadows his accomplishments these days.

Bill James ranks Berra first. Great discussion of this exact conversation in the appendix of Allen Barra's book "Yogi Berra: Eternal Yankee."

I agree that Berra is underrated historically. I think the fact that he played for a great Yankees powerhouse team makes some belittle his amazing accomplishments at the catcher position. I have him at two behind Bench, but it's not that wide a margin.

Yeah, I am curious as to why he thinks Yogi is overrated. I would take him over any catcher....and I am a die-hard Red Sox fan!

Maine of course......
Bench or Berra
Berra or Bench

...happy with either......glad I get two votes.

Both "won" which certainly should enter in the conversation. They won multiple World Series and major awards (MVPs, ROYS) . Both have huge numbers for catchers and were great defensively.

Ahh Golf. And the Yogi-isms:

"80 percent of the balls that don't reach the hole, don't go in."

And for those of you having a tough time deciding on your vote, well:

"When you come to a fork in the road....Take it"

;)

Btw, My votes had to go to the players I've actually watched. It's too hard for me to vote for someone I've never seen or was too young to remember seeing.
Just my take.

Voted for bench because i think he the obvious choice but very surprised campanella is getting so few votes.

3 mvps and a ridiculous caught stealing percentage!

Not saying he's the best but he deserves more recognition than he's getting!

THANK you! 2 frigging votes? I got no problem with Bench filling the roster slot here; but for a baseball discussion board, you all failed pretty badly by not discussing Campy's place on this list...

Campy is one of my all time favorite players, however, I cannot put him ahead of Bench or Berra.
