Alex Rodriguez will have played more games as a 3rd baseman when all is said and done, so I took the liberty of not using him on the SS list and will be putting him on the 3rd basemen list... if anyone is wondering.

I think most players will be from the olden days (1900 - 1960) and no big surprises...You should do your next one as "best teams of the 80s" and "best team of the 90s", using like the top players from those decades or an era...still good stuff though

Best active could be fun too. Maybe when this is done I will do that.

I wish I could vote for Yount, but he's one of those guys that can't really be nailed down to one position. He won an MVP as SS and as an outfielder, so the best arguement I could make would be for one season. He paved the way for big shortstops and as a premium offensive position, but I can't vote for my boy over Honus Wagner and Ripken.

Banks played more games at 1B. You can certainly write him in if you so desire.

Wow. I can't believe Ripken Jr is not leading this. That man was amazing, he was awesome to the fans, he was extremely tough, could play both sides of the ball fairly well. Fair list so far though.

You're killing me with these lists, first no Sandberg and now no Banks? Banks is known as a SS, period. While he may have played more games at first, I'm willing to bet that most people do not know he even played first.

Banks was solid in 1958-1959 winning 2 straight MVPs at short stop with an average of 46 HR + 136 RBI + .300+ AVG

What does it matter what he's "known as" when he played more games at 1st. I was trying to get him onto the 1st basemen list, but he just fell short for me, same with Sandberg at 2nd. Of course I could have had them on there over any of the bottom few, but it would not have made a difference. They would not have won at 1st base OR shortstop, OR 2nd base, so it simply doesn't matter. You are failing to see the point of this. It's not about a top-9 of all-time list, it's about the best ever. I can't get 10 to 20 player into 9 spots, sorry. Some truly amazing players HAVE to be omitted and that is exactly why I have an "other" option.

I broached that subject in the OP. I am putting him on the 3rd basemen list because he will have played more games there when all is said and done. I can't warrant putting a guy on a list at a certain position when he played more at another, or in Rodriguez' case, WILL play more at another. Whichever position a player played most at, that's what list he goes on.

o haha now i see that...he will most certainly play more games at 3rd base, so that makes sense.

Banks is one of the best players of all-time. No doubt about it. It's just impossible to fit all these guys into 9 spots and I had to make tough decisions. It's not a slight to them. That's why I have the "other" option.

In defense of the OP, the Hall of Fame website lists Ernie Banks as a first baseman. If it's good enough for the Hall, it's good enough for this poll.

I beg to differ.. I would take Ripken over both in any era... I tell you what I would probably take Alex Rodriguez over them too. Yeah he has played a lot of 3rd and used some performance enhancing stuff but he was awesome at short. No way you convince me that all his numbers or the reason he is/was great was because he took some HGH.
