The kid is 19 slugging .500 and has more walks than Ks. No one wants him to fail more than I do but he's definitely holding his own.

How can you root for someone to fail?

And he can hit home runs, he just hasn't yet. The two doubles against Arizona missed by about 1 foot verticle in the deep part of the park. Some Pirates pitcher (they play 5 times in the next week) will hang something up just right for him. PNC is a good place to hit a bomb.

Hit home runs?

+1. Heyward had 3 HRs and 10 RBIs after his first 8 games.

Harper has been pretty impressive though. Too bad the team was winning more without him than they are with him.

Small Sample Size.

How can you say small sample size?????? Everyone is hyping Harper based on this "small sample size"...If he slugs .500 over 8 games, he's a beast...but if he doesn't hit a home run in 8 games, it's a small sample size...don't understand the logic...

I want people to fail who want others to fail. I'm just kind of wacky that way.

What's not to get?

All I pointed out was that it was too small a sample size to say he "can't hit home runs?"

I'm sorry, but I don't speak for "everyone." I don't think anyone expects him to slug .500 over his career and steal home every 8 games.

i also want harper to fail, but its more about seeing stupid people paying 5 figures for baseball cards
getting screwed over. the difference between a hall off famer and an out of baseball scrubb is as simple as 5 hits per 100
at bats over an entire season, 25 hits a year, thats it. so why would a harper card demand up to
10-20K? is he going to be a 400 career hitter? hit 800 home runs? pretty good chance he will fall somewhere between
the 0-5 hits per 100 at bats, which means people buying at those prices and driving case prices and pack ripping
up are f**king morons, and i love to see those people get screwed.

I don't want Harper to fail....I personally think he has some of the biggest talent ever seen in a prospect...I just want to give a fair and impartial outlook on his statistics

Has Harper had an amazing MLB Start both offensively and defensively...Yes....Did Harper have a terrible run in AAA?.....Yes....Has Harper hit 1 homer in 30 games...Yes

Bryce Harper started slow at every level of the game, and then proceeded to crush others. No one is bothered by his slow start at AAA. He's going to hit some home runs.

Also...he's 19.

All of which has NOTHING to do with Bryce Harper and EVERYTHING to do with the fact that people are stupid. Blame stupid people, not the guy who's doing his best to play baseball.

Small Sample Size.

The "first 8 games" is the sum total of the sample size, so it is not a "small sample size". It is a fact - Heyward hit 3 more HRs in his first 8 games than Bryce Harper did. Harper may hit 50 this year, or he may hit more in the rest of his career, but one thing I can tell you for certain is that Heyward will always have hit 3 more HRs in his first 8 games than Harper did.

My point is merely a cautionary tale about judging someone after their first 8 major league games. And seriously, his minor league stats are about the equivalent of Drew Stubbs' or Angel Pagan's season in 2010. That is not "crushing" others.
