Meanwhile back at the thread, I more specifically mean visible physical disabilities, missing or damaged appendages, etc. I think there is a pitcher with a Mordecai Brown thing, missing the tip of a finger or two, but can't recall who or if he's still active.

I think one of the guys in the cardinals farm system has 6 fingers. That is not really a disability I don't guess.

Treating diabetes fifty years ago was night and day, so I'm sure it was very challenging. With the technology today, it is no big deal.

Um I'm pretty sure he is definitely not deaf, he responded to people calling his name in spring training. Although he did have a drug issue, he was caught with coke.

Tyson was born deaf and wears hearing aids in both ears. No one knew he was deaf until he was four because he learned to read lips very well.

Well it's really sad to read that people really think that.


On August 20, 2010, Gillies was arrested and charged in Clearwater, Florida on felony cocaine possession. After attending a bar the night of the arrest, Gillies was offered a ride to his hotel by a police officer. Before entering the police cruiser, the officer searched Gillies for weapons and paraphernalia and did not find Gillies to be possessing anything illegal. Upon dropping Gillies off, the officer found a three-gram bag of a white powdery substance that appeared to be cocaine on the floor of the backseat of the cruiser and arrested Gillies for possession. Within hours of the arrest, Gillies underwent drug testing and showed no traces of cocaine, marijuana or opiates in his system.

The state attorney's office dropped all charges against Gillies because the backseat of the cruiser was not thoroughly searched before Gillies entered the vehicle, the officer failed to find the substance during a routine search of Gillies before he entered the vehicle, and because the substance failed two on-site drug tests.

Gillies said of the charges being dropped, “I’m glad that this ordeal is over, but I’m still very upset that it happened to me and that my character, which I’ve worked so hard to build, can even be questioned.”


The substance wasn't his, and it wasn't coke. Great work cops, as always! Well, at least they didn't beat him to death like the mentally disabled homeless guy in California... just ruined his reputation. And of course, when he got "busted" it was front page news, but when it turned out he was innocent, it was on the back page.

Diabetes isn't a disability. The Obama Administration tried to tout their diversity by saying they employed diabetics. What a joke.

Diabetes is not a disability but you can become disabled by not controlling your blood sugar levels over a period of time. I have had diabetes for 30 years now since I was 12 and have not once considered myself as having a disability. If anything, it is more of an inconvenience at times.

Zach Greinke suffers, or had suffered, from dibilitating panic disorder. While not classified as an actual disability by the medical community, living with severe panic disorder/anxiety is no picnic and can severely limit normal living i.e work, relationships etc.

Obesity is being considered as a disability. Prince Fielder is getting pretty big.
And before you say anything, I am an overweight guy myself, so I am not making a joke or trying to be a jerk.
I work in HR and I just today received a workshop flyer about how to handle this "new" disability for our staff.

He also was caught sliding belly first on the tarps in Baltimore during a rain delay, which he did last year that caused his sports hernia that kept him from hitting down the stretch and playoffs.
Way to put a Triple Crown season in jeopardy by acting like a 4 year old.
