Interesting. Drafting for the next 10 years I'm not sure if I would go Kemp. He's the obvious choice for the near future. I would be more apt to go with someone in the 22-25 age range. That way I have him for the best seasons.

I think the safest pick would be Kershaw. He's young enough for the next 10 years, and he has the most proven track record of the younger players. That said, he is a pitcher, and there is risk in that I guess.

I would never ever draft a pitcher for if I'm thinking of starting a 10 year franchise. I don't care how good he is. If Tulo or Longoria didn't get hurt so damn much, either one would be my #1.

Injuries scare me. Tulo and Longoria would be pretty risky in that aspect as they get older. I'd rather go Kemp if I was picking from those three.

If I went position player I might go Stanton. He might not end up better than Harper or Trout, but he's more proven. I would hate to spend my #1 pick on someone who might not live up to potential. They both appear to be living up to it, but Stanton has more experience, and is safer at the moment.

I think it is laughable to dismiss a star who is 29-30 because you are concerned that by 36-37 he will be in decline and ignore the fact that for most of the really young guys being mentioned, even if they are not a total bust (which inevitably some will be) it will likely be a few years before they hit their primes and those early could easily be far worse than the declining years of a big star. I'll take guys Who are both young and proven like Braun, Kershaw and McCutchen first then look to guys like Miggy who may be a bit older but should still have 6-8 great years before the inevitable decline. Only exception may be middle infielders who tend to decline at a younger age so a guy like Cano I might wait a bit longer to draft.

(And related to pitchers, we've seen young guys flame out and older pitchers keep chugging along. Other than Kershaw and Felix I'd avoid the really young pitchers including Strasburg. Too much uncertainty for me to risk.

Went back and read this once it was finished. Starlin Castro at #9 and Jeff Samardzija on the list in general?? What a waste of time.
